Damager:
zaptor: Seriously thinking of getting one of these.

Does anyone know if the Note 2's from VF, Telecom, or 2D are locked in any way?

Nopes. Phones sold by the networks are not locked, and haven't been for some time.

Thanks.

Are you saying that because you know it for a fact, or it's been the general trend for virtually all mobiles for a while now.

Btw, Skinny phones are sim locked.

I realize my original question is somewhat noobish, I just wanted confirmation.

Does anyone have experience with the Note 2 & USB OTG??

I got a couple cheapness from eBay, this one here...
http://www.ebay.com/itm/230796979703?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649

But it won't work, I've seen the demo video on page 2 I think of this thread. I get no notification pop ups like the vid shows. Nothing at all happens.

Anyone have similar issues? Or have I bought the wrong kind of OTG cable??
Is there a difference between OTG cables? Excuse my ignorance here!

Likely the cable is faulty, USB OTG is a connection standard and if that cable works with the phones in the description it will work with the Note 2 also. There are plenty on Trademe, usually quicker shipping that way!

So - a question from an original Galaxy Note user.
How many of you guys bought the dual-carrier version?
And... if you did - are you noticing the difference with your carrier where you use it?

P.S. Everyone IS rolling out DC aren't they?  I see Vodafone is - and am assuming that Telecom and 2D are too, albeit quietly.

N7105 owner here. Have'nt been in any DC areas to test speeds yet so not sure how fast I can get it.

I could be wrong but I think vodafone are only selling the DC model. Not the N7100.

Also theres very limited development on xda for the N7105, which sux. A lot for N7100 though. I did notice a big increase in network speed after flasing the rom I'm currently on.

I have seletec Tony Hughes to receive a Samsung Galaxy Note II from Telecom for review on TelecomTech. I've just posted his first blog entry here.

Keep up the good work folks, who knows which one of you gets to be invited next?

Is there any point getting an LTE version for a higher price? I get the impression this is for a network type we don't have in NZ (and wont for some time).

The LTE version also supports Dual Carrier HSPA (DC-HSPA) which is being rolled out by Telecom and Vodafone at the moment, so if fast downloads and uploads are important to you and you're on one of those networks then it definitely should be a consideration.

I have a dilemma somewhat in line with the above recent posts. I bought myself a new Note 2 in the Christmas sales for a handy discount of $200. I finally got the phone today and discovered that it was not the N705 I was rather naively expecting - from tracking online prices - but the N7100.

The retailer has kindly offered me a refund if I wish. I'm now wondering, should I keep this $820 Galaxy Note 2 N7100, or go online, spend another $200 and buy the N7105?

$820 is a great price, but will I be kicking myself in 6 months when Vodafone and Telecome intro LTE. Things that factor into this include how much will that LTE cost, and just how good are download services currently.

Are there other issues I haven't thought of and is it worth spending the extra $200?

Do you really need that speed?

Note2 already comes with 2GB memory. If you are getting sgs3, it is better with the DC version since it comes with 2GB memory rather than 1GB...

Speed is good!

But, no, you're probably right, I don't need that speed.

Scrolling through a large spreadsheet is the most bandwidth intensive thing I'll be doing.

I've been reading/hearing plenty of reports of just how amazing LTE speeds are, however, and that's got me intrigued. Another world, is what I hear.

I've got the N7105 also. I thought the guy at JB's accidentally gave me the DC/LTE model, and I was like 'Yeeeah, got it for the price of the N7100!" Then I found out that's the only variant Vodafone is selling!

I don't rekon it's worth the extra cash. Then again, get back to me once LTE rolls out...

LTE absolutely flies ( iPad3 New York city ), but in NZ given we are restricted by the pacific cable, it's tough to know how long before that speed with be relevent.

On the iPad you have to manually flip back to 3g when out of LTE coverage, which is a pain.
