Tonight I enabled Homegroups on my Win7 PC (brain fade)...and then realised other devices would probably no longer be able to see my shared folders....which was why in 3 years I had never enabled Homegroups. (d'oh...)

Sure enough....they can't see the shares.

Ok..so I checked out how to disable Homegroups and I have done that. Off. Disabled. Gone.

But I still can't see my shares.

Has anyone with Android and ES File Explorer found themselves in this situation? Is there hope?

Same thing happened to me a while ago.

Easiest way was to redo the share settings for the folders (right click > Share with...) and then go through the advanced sharing settings (Properties > Sharing > Advanced) as well and make sure nothing got changed there.

Devices: Samsung Captivate (AT&T Galaxy S) and HTC One on Telecom. Samsung Galaxy Tab 2.

Can't really add anything more than what bradstewart has said.

My desktop PC is really just a thin client to my NAS, however I do use ES File Explorer to access shares on my PC which thus far hasn't exhibited any problems.

Sometimes, if the mood or circumstances dictate I also mount my PC shares as local folders on my Android device.

Some Android applications do not have any ability to access data from remote sources without it being seen as local data.

I use CifsManager from Google Play Store for the above configuration.

Given today's diverse array of connectible devices, a NAS(Network Attached Storage) is a VERY seamless access point for future use and data sharing.
