I think the main reason that causes the excitement is the price point and the vanilla android experience it's so sexy

Interesting that Android's finally become advanced enough that people specifically want the vanilla version. A few years ago it was all about which companies custom version of Android was best, but now a lot of those extras just annoy people. Hopefully it won't be long before the big manufacturers start putting out devices with stock Android, now that the Nexus 4 is such a big seller (or would be if they were available?). According to PDADB the Nexus 4 is the only phone in the world currently running Android 4.2.

Personally I couldn't wait the 2 months plus for a Nexus 4, I've ordered an Optimus 4X which has a lot of similar specs plus removeable battery and SD card slot. I've got a Pebble watch on preorder so also wanted Bluetooth 4.0 for that (which the Nexus has but not many others do).

I actually sold my S3  soley to get the nexus 4. I truly adored the nexus 7's ui and interface and the scrolling was just omg . . like we were meant to be :D but like in my past post if you scroll a few pages back, I had to return the nexus 7 back twice but the nexus 4 made me want to come back to nexus and never leave. Stock is what every company should aim for, the true google experience. Touchwiz is plain boring by samsung. Sure it's fast snappy but honestly I got so bored of it. This may differ to other peoples view but stock is ALWAYS the best especially nexus

Hi all,
I was reading this thread to see what others have experienced in trying to obtain a Google Nexus 4.
I too extremely want one, and badly. I was thinking of getting it through Google Play Store, and was considering the 16gb. I was going to use Youshop too. That would roughly come around to $460 without any customs tax etc.
I was just wondering, for anyone who has purchased a 16gb model, have you incurred any customs fees at all? I just want to see what my chances may be of keeping my cost to a minimum. I have no intention of illegally bypassing customs. If I order the phone and incur the fee, I will pay it. I just want to know how many people have actually had to pay it. It does not sound like many had to.

Also regarding the charger, I am assuming it will be incompatible with our powerpoints, but that can be easily fixed with an adapter, or by plugging it into the computer. But will it be able to handle the voltage? We use different amount of volts and so will this be able to work with the Google Nexus 4? or will it ruin it in some way? I am not so experienced in this so sorry if this is a silly question.

I know this does not come with an international warranty, so in the case of my phone being faulty do I just send it back to Google direct? Or do I have to do this some other way.
I know there are other options such as the Negri store and such, but to be honest, without those customs fees, this is one of the cheapest phones out there, and I wish to keep it that way Smile

Thanks for any help that is offered!

I was going to use youshop but switched to ship it to. They are cheaper faster and let you fill put customs yourself. Most did not have to pay customs for the 8gb but in all honesty when the radar sees what is inside the package it does not say 16 anywhere so I dont know just declare at its real value I suppose or any you want.

For voltage I need to find out about that myself but 99% sure nothing will happen. On computer its 100% secure and it should be no different from a socket. Thats why they build universal travel adapters so I think its completely fine although we will probably need to hear this from the other members.

Uh you cant send to google directly unfortunantly straight from nz. What u will be doing if it comes out faulty is that you print out 2 forms explaining everything your order number etc and the other attached is googles address. What I am doing if it comes out faulty (hopefully not as google is addressing the problema) is calling up google first and speaking to them about this and what I should do. Calling is not free but its cheap go to your local dairy supermarket and buy talk n save and I can tell you everything. Then I send both papers packaged inside with n4. My cous sends to google. Google emails me and says they replace for example. After they send to my freight forwarder ship it to and they send back to me. Quite expensive shipping cost but hopefully we should experience no problems the first time it arrives.

rjw112: The first N4 on hits TradeMe.
http://www.trademe.co.nz/mobile-phones/mobile-phones/lg/auction-539164723.htm

$855 - $48 (TM Fee) - $441 (Phone and shipping) - $25 (postage to NZ) = $340 Profit (roughly)

This is also interesting, Ezi Shopping have "discontinued" selling the N4 after never actually selling it in the first place.
http://www.ezishopping.co.nz/m_mall_detail.php?ps_ctid=18090000&ps_goid=920

I grabbed two 16Gb from ezishopping.co.nz

Guy was great to deal with. Guy said they had limited stock, tha'ts why they went out of stock fast.

Anyone have any experience with youshop/nzpost.  My Nexus 4 cleared customs on Thursday, midday, which shows on NZ Post's tracking as "released for delivery".  However, nothing's happened to it since.  Is that normal?  Should I ring up NZ Post to see why nothing's happening?

since thursday is closing to a non working day couriers don't do delivery on saturday or sunday because saturday and sunday are all non working days. Youshop takes very good care of your products by giving priority over it than any other since it is from overseas so what I think is going on is that the priority mail for the courier (or whatever it is) hasn't released it yet so just wait until monday and you can call them up if you want. But I think it's all about priority which is why they are taking so long.
I'd call them up as well

EDIT: Oh yea also I sold my galaxy s3 on trademe 2 weeks ago. The day I shipped it the next day he received it but it still says 'in depot' on the post office nz website, It's stuffing up so don't stress mate lol

Cool.  I did notice something that said they were upgrading their tracking system this weekend, so that might be it ...  I'll see what happens on Monday.  I was just hoping that it would be in the courier's hand on Thursday for delivery on Friday - wishful thinking maybe.

Ok, hopefully my Nexus 4 won't be a faulty, because then I don't have to go through that!
Yea, please keep me posted about the charger and whether it will work.
I take it that when you used shipito you went with Airmail Economy? because that is the cheapest option available.

So I am assuming that no one has incurred any custom fees when ordering a 16gb Nexus 4? I just want to see my chances of not getting them, as I want to try and keep the costs to a minimum.
I am also assuming that almost everyone who purchased a 8gb model did not incur a fee at all?

Thanks for the help, I really do want to get a Nexus 4 but just making sure I know all the information before biting the bullet.

Is there a google receipt in the package showing the price? Wont Youshop and shipit to be able to see it if there was?

When I recieved my invoice for purchasing it only says shipping address and where its coming from ( in this case googles address) billing is just to verify your credit card and such whicch is why we have $$ taken from our account but its not showing where because its pending. Everything will go to your shipping address not your billing. They dont care about that. All they wanna know is where we deliver to. Can we take your money and done
