The only reconfiguration I had to do was turn location services back on (one press of a button) and to re-enable the phone in the Play Store which is really easy...

1. Sign out of the Play store and your google account on your PC
2. Close your browser on your PC
3. Open the Play store on your mobile and download any free app
4. Open your browser on your PC
5. Sign back into the Play store and your google account on your PC

YMMV

Has your update come through yet? I still haven't got it for my Nexus 7 (rooted) or Nexus 4 (US bought, non-rooted). I've tried the framework trick and removing my google account but still no update love. I can do the sideload easily enough, but the one of the reasons I got my N4 was so I didn't have to play around with roms/updates etc!

Yes the "google services framework" trick did work, but it needed multiple cycles of clearing the cache and data (just toggling back and forth on the same screen). I followed the procedure here:
http://marakana.com/s/post/1321/force_an_ota_update_on_your_android_nexus_device

I dont think I would do this again though. I lost a bunch of settings to do with google services (location etc.) and it was a pain to go back though the multiple places changing things back. Also my device disappeared from the web Google play store for a few days.

Thanks Oncop53, I had heard that it potentially messed with the location services and play store. I think I will just sit tight and wait. I might not be so inclined to wait if it were a more serious update Smile

Hooray, both my N7 and N4 got their updates today.

Question to the group... did anyone with a rooted N4 get an OTA update? If so, did it install ok and retain root?  I've had a mixed bag with my rooted N7, the previous 4.2.1 update didn't install properly and I had to sideload.

I was thinking of keeping my N4 un-rooted, but the ads are driving me crazy! I had no idea there were ads on youtube and google maps. I've always had a rooted android (S2 and S3) and the Adfree app has obviously been doing it's job!

SuperSU (pro version) features an OTA survival mode. I haven't tested it myself (since I always have and will run a custom ROM) but from what I heard from others using it - it works.

Hey team, I've had my N4 for about a month and today cut over to VFNZ from 2Degrees. Since then, I'm unable to send text messages. I can receive texts fine and voice and data work fine.

I've done some research and found the my SMSC number (i assume some sort of text gateway) is not populated. If i enter the menu *#*#4636#*#* and enter the suggested (googled) SMSC of +6421600600 i still can't text....

Any ideas?

My smsc field is empty and no issues here, so that discounts that.

My N7 is rooted but I still get OTAs however I have not put a custom ROM on it.  I use OTA Rootkeeper to go back to root after installation of an update.  Works like a charm.  You can get it in the Play Store.

Not sure if this has been discussed so apologies if it has. Does anyone know if 2 Degrees customize the firmware for the N4's that they sell so they work with Touch2Pay? Just wondering since Nexus phones are supposed to be the pure Android experience and any carrier customization will mean delays in recieving updates. If they work "out of the box" with Touch2Pay, that would mean that Google has the necessary API's included already.....?

Edit: Just looked on the 2D website and noticed that the N4 isn't listed as a Touch2Pay phone so I've answered my own question Undecided

Yeah, everything I've read indicates that they are completely stock, no carrier customisations at all.

Excellent. Thanks for the advice. I've rooted my N4 now and will try OTA Rootkeeper. My N7 got the 4.2.2 OTA update and lost root, but with Wugfresh's tool it only takes a couple of minutes to get it back, no biggie if the rootkeeper doesn't work at some point.

What experience has everyone had with their battery?

I'm normally getting from 6am - 10.30pm on heavy usage with mobile data but yesterday managed to pull close to 1 day, 8 hours with average usage on WiFi. Still had 20% battery left but needed to charge up for the evening.

Anecdotally battery life seems to have improved for me. I generally have 50-60% left at night when I plug in after a day of light to moderate use (6am - 11pm). Never lower than 30% even with heavy use.

With the latest franco kernel, Paranoid Android ROM, Qualcomm BatteryGuru, Nexus 4 Display Control and various kernel/system tweaks, I get around two days of battery life with moderate-heavy usage.
