"A flaw in the latest version of the Android operating system has resulted in the month of December disappearing from an app for storing information about contacts.

The flaw affects the "People app", which is the default app for keeping contact information on Android devices.

The People app calendar goes from November 2012 straight to January 2013.

Android is Google's operating system. Version 4.2 was launched in October 2012.

Other Google calendars are unaffected by the flaw."

Well, if people complained about the one hour shift in Apple iOS time during DST changes, then that's nothing compared to a whole month shift.

Oh, wait... Isn't 2012 a leap year? Hmmm, it might be related. Or not.

I saw this at The Register where the headline was given their usual treatment:

Bah humbug! Google cancels Christmas

Surprising that it did not get caught by unit tests.

I have worked on a system where the log files had lines starting with a time stamp YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM:SS etc, and the year and day of month were in normal format but the months were numbered 0 to 11. After being spotted, it was left that way for many months until a major rewrite upgrade to avoid inconsistency between old and new log files if it was fixed.

Maybe Google is taking the whole '21-12-2012 end of the world' thing very seriously. So to avoid the end of the world they have cancelled December. Multinationals are pretty powerful these days but that may be too big even for them! ;)

Although this is a bit of a stuff up its pretty minor.

It only effects the contacts app when you want to put in someones birthday or anniversary.

How many users will actually use it?
