Hi all,

I followed the following instructions to try and fix my supposedly "unfixable" Nexus One.

Have managed to get to step 5, but my volume down button wont select recovery, in factit wont move from fastboot so was wondering if anyone had advice on how to install a ROM without using the phone to open the file?

I have a microSD->USB adapter which is how I got the file from that link onto my phone. And how I got my data off it, that the IT company told me wasn't even accessable.



ANY advise or help much appreciated, as I really want to fix this problem.

It's been a while since I've had a Nexus One but I'm pretty sure you use the trackball to select the options in fastboot mode.

What setup do you have at the moment? Who has told you it is unfixable?

thanks for your reply..

i was told by mobilephonecare (a supposedly specialist phone repair company) that none of my data was recoverable, and that the OS software could not be reinstalled.. ie the phone was bricked. Turned out to be totally crap, which I suspected as Linux is usually repairable - just gotta know what you are doing.

In the boot, the tracker ball doesnt do anything either. Bit stuck on how to initiate the install :)

I doubt your data will be recoverable, but if you can get into boot loader mode chances are you will be able to at least get the phone working again.

You may be able to install the ROM through adb, I can't remember though as its been a while since I've played with a nexus one. I'll have a look at my notes and see if I can find some instructions for you.

What state is the phone in at the moment? What happens when you power it on? Can you get into recovery mode? I'm assuming from your previous post that you can get into bootloader mode. Has the bootloader been unlocked? What caused the phone to go into this state in the first place?

Sorry for all the questions, I just need an idea of it's current state.

If you can't get into recovery, but can get into fastboot mode then you may be able to install the rom through there. This is assuming you have the android sdk installed on your computer and are using windows.

You will need the system.img file and boot.img file.

Navigate to the sdk directory and find the folder with fastboot.exe (should be in platform-tools) copy your .img files into this folder. Make sure they are called "system.img" and "boot.img" without the quotes,

Hold shift and right click, select open command window here.

Get your phone into fastboot mode and plug it in to your computer

type in "fastboot devices" without the quotes. This will display any devices it can see in fastboot mode. If it displays your device, then proceed with the following commands

fastboot -w
fastboot flash system system.img

fastboot flash boot boot.img

fastboot reboot

This will reinstall the boot image and system image, and then reboot the phone. Assuming there are no hardware faults preventing it from booting you should be fine from here.
