Hi there,

How resistant do you guys find the rear camera glass to scratches?
I've cut out a circle from a typical PET screen protector and applied it to the rear camera, but I found it affects photo quality quite significantly.
I"m so tempted to go 'naked' but again, as we all know the camera protrudes quite a bit and I'm concern it will get scratched easily.

Judging by the size of the camera area, I doubt it's Gorillas Glass or Sapphire Glass..

Nothing on mine yet, after 2 months of use with out any cases. YMMV, but I avoid placing on hard surfaces if I can and am pretty careful with pocketing the phone.

Turns out my DOA Nexus5 32GB has a short circuit on its motherboard. Fonefix quoted $450 for repair so I didn't bother.

If anyone needs N5 parts, my phone is otherwise mint condition (all stickers etc. still on, 100% as new condition. $150. Local pickup available ;)
Cheaper than any 3rd party replacements if you want to do your own DIY repairs. 100% original parts :D

Sorry, why aren't you returning it to Google for repair?

Ok, while I wait to find out how much my replacement screen is, I have decided to do a complete U-turn on my long-held ‘no case/naked phone’ preference and am now looking to get some level of drop protection for my N5.

So am looking for some good case recommendations. I don’t know whether to go for a soft gel case or a hard shell case? 2degrees have a hard shell case for $20, but my feeling is that hard shell would provide less protection than soft?

I want to avoid any unnecessary bulk, so am looking for a slim fitting case. Slim is good, bulk is bad! I’m not looking for thermo-nuclear-level protection, just a reasonable level of protection against unplanned drops.

Any thoughts?

I have a Ringke SLIM on mine and I find it fits well and doesn't bulk the phone up. The small lip keeps the screen off flat surfaces when place face-down and the back is just slightly thicker than the camera lens so also protects the lens. I haven't dropped the phone yet so I can't give first hand feedback on how well it works from a protection point.

Bought from Google Play AU store, Google refuses to RMA to NZ address so I successfully filed a CC charge back on them. Mentioned earlier in the thread :)

Don't you have to return the item for that?

Legally no. Because they were charged back due to providing an item not fit for purpose. I have no legal responsibility to return the item to them. Google didn't provide the refund, it was the credit card company.

+1 for the Ringke Slim, the material is also pretty close to the regular N5 back, you'll forget you even have a case on it after a week. It also still works pretty well with the magnets if you're using the wireless charger.

Thanks. Looks great - but online reviews say it is a bit suspect for drop protection ... ? We did you order from?

I have a 32GB US play store version. Is anybody experiencing problems with dropped data connections. Sometimes an airplane mode toggle or a mobile data on/off toggle will make it work again but sometimes nothing but a full reboot fixes the problem. Running 4.4.2 rooted but stock. On telecom sim, haven't bothered getting a 4g sim as it won't work on the bands here.

Thanks!

Anything else cool I should get? :) Haven't had a new phone since my 4S nearly 30 months ago!

Hey guys,

I was directed here after making a post requesting some advice on purchasing a Nexus 5 through the Aus Playstore.

Essentially I want to purchase the phone through the Aus Playstore as you probably all know it is a lot cheaper through there, but the shipping situation is where I'm after some advice.

I plan on having the phone sent to a friend in Aus who will then send it to me in Auckland, New Zealand. I understand Auspost won't send anything overseas with lithium. But there are other companies that do, PackAndSend for example quoted me $98.00 haha.

So has anyone bought their phone through the Aus Playstore and had it send over somehow? How did it go? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Yes I am just looking to save a couple hundred bucks, and the novelty of purchasing from the actual Google Playstore kind of appeals to me (silly I know since I'm better off with the CG Act. behind me purchasing from NZ)

Thanks a lot,

Liam.
