Good call - choosing between Siyah and Abyss is a bit like choosing between sex or pizza. . . . .You really can't pick a bad option. . . . Wink

Sounds like a lot of Baloney to me.

Just to check, can anyone tell me if this is the latest (un-rooted) firmware for an unlocked S2:

PDA:LP7 / PHONE: LPS / CSC:LP5 (XEU)

The Wi-Fi on mine is often pretty poor, for example sometimes it takes a few attempts to send a message on Facebook even though it shows nearly full bars of wi-fi signal. I didn't notice it doing that before the ICS update.

There's a newer VFNZ firmware available:
PDA : I9100XWLPI
PHONE : I9100XXLPX
CSC : I9100VNZLP2

...however according to Check FUS the LP7 firmware is the most recent XEU firmware.  There may be an OTA update imminent (much like the one that VFNZ recently released).

Interesting. Running ICS with cf-root kernels mine is faster than the laptop (g) on my home network (8 devices - 1 b, 3 g and 4 n). It's actually one of the things I've been consistently impressed with!

Have you tried a different S2 on the same wifi network or had similar issues with yours on other wifi networks?

Wow, two very different replies. Interesting, it makes me wonder if it's partly to do with some wireless routers or settings combined with the I9100. Hmm.

I have a Linksys E4200 running in Mixed network mode on 2.4GHz, with Auto channel width and auto channel. It's set to WPA2/WPA Mixed Mode.

There's no other wireless networks near by, and our phone is 1.8GHz.

i had thought it was because mine is the 9100T (the T bit indicates a different wifi hardware ... right?)

it's not the connection speed, but the imprecise connection - almost seems to be like a dropped connection type phenomenon ... maybe a bad batch

of note - turning OFF wifi makes my battery last longer too ... must be a bad batch!

My Modem is a Netcomm NB304N (Telstra...) running stock settings and WPA2 (from memory). My home phone is 2.4GHz. I've never bothered looking for clear channels (using a wifi scan app) as I've never really had reception issues or other noticeable problems from all the different devices on the network or from neighbouring networks.

I had terrible issues with dropped wifi connections on GB. The notification bar still showed a connection but it simply did not work. I had to reset it to get it connect. I got over this by making it disconnect when asleep, but despite many (really, sooo many) attempts to resolve it nothing would. When I started using ICS in January that problem went away, never to return.

Edit:
Mine's an international I9100.

Battery lasts longer with wifi OFF? Wow, that is odd! That does describe how mine feels though; almost like a dropped connection type phenomenon.

Mine is the international I9100 too. Interestingly, I get that connection problem you described sometimes, but never did on GB. I've only had it since ICS. How odd, haha.

I'll try to give mine a good test at work tomorrow, on their wi-fi and see if I can replicate the problem there.

Our Wi-Fi at work is having troubles of its own (doh!) but when the issue came up tonight again at home, I did some more testing.

I found the signal strength was between -50 and -60 dB, which seems ok. But when I'd try to load something (say Facebook) it would fail. The Speedtest app was also very jumpy, and often failed as a connection error.

I tried the 5Ghz wifi and actually that works perfectly so far. Fast, no connection problems. Shorter range though, but still, it seems great so far.

I switched back to 2.4 Ghz to see if that was going fine too, and it wasn't.

Have you tried changing the channel on the wifi modem from auto to a set channel? I have an Apple wifi and have to set it on channel 6 to get the best transmission. Auto isn't usually the best.
Also on auto, things like microwave ovens, or other electrical appliances can cause problems.

A warning for those intending to flash this build, ie XXLQ5: The kernel has a bug which can hard-brick a device, causing "irreparable damage"! XDA recommends that you immediately flash a different kernel or different ROM, which is not affected by this bug.

In other news, after an unusually long gap there's finally been an update to SiyahKernel!

v3.3.3b was released, with pegasusq and cfs fixes and tweaks, and merges with upstream kernel 3.0.36.

Keeping an eye Siyah v3.3.3b and will test against Abyss and CF-Root.

Anyone still here with an i9100T and on Telecom or has everyone jumped over to the SGSIII thread? ;-) Looking for an updated, stable, tested and working modem. Cheers

Still seeing secril_fd-interface wakelocks with Fast Dormancy disabled. Does this make any sense?
