TG09: I am on the Telecom XT network, I work for Telecom its a work phone, no particular package that I am aware of.

Have a look here for the APN settings. You'll probably find the mms one is either missing or incorrect.

Right some progress kinda. I have added the additional APN's also a friend said he had similar thing and installed GO SMS  app, and something in that apps makes the pictures download and display. Apparently it something to do with the default text app, GO SMS has something inside it that fixes it.

In my experience MMS doesn't work on non-stock ROMs on any Samsung device on XT. This goes for S2, S3 and a Captivate (S1) I had.

I tried Cyanogenmod and a few others on them and no amount of playing with APNs could get pictures to download. As soon as I reflashed stock it worked fine. I suspect there is something in the Telecom specific settings in the ROm that made it work but I could never find it.

Yep, GO SMS is doing the job for now. So will stick with that. Also got Viber installed, so all is not lost. Just annoying it doesnt work by default. would of thought rooting the phone would screw the MMS.

Oddly enough I never had a problem for the nine months I had my S2 on XT. I didn't try CM, AOKP or MIUI roms until ICS was released, but mms on all my Samsung based custom roms worked perfectly.

Here are the three stock Telecom Roms (requested on XDA). The CSC's are listed for all three.

Jelly Bean has arrived!

In case you're living in a hole, or don't follow any other tech sites or forums, a leaked Samsung build of 4.1.2 Jelly Bean has appeared. The build is XXLSJ and was released to the masses this morning.
It's quite smooth and stable and other than a few small lags occasionally it's running very well. The new Touchwiz (S3, Note 2) is very nice on the S2, transforming the phone into something very pleasant to use (I previously hated Touchwiz). It's light years ahead of the quality we've come to expect of early leaked builds and certainly lends support to rumours of an impending release.

The downsides? None really, although the new firmware files are huge. Massive. Really massive. Last VNZ rom was 383MB, this is 903MB. Your eyes are not deceiving you, this is enormous.

New Features include: smart stay, direct call, enhanced motion sensors, a new keyboard, Google Now, floating video player, new gallery with face tagging, group cast, JB notifications, toggles and brightness slider in notifications, lock-screen with shortcuts,  blocking mode (do not disturb feature), S Planer, widgets, 50 GB Cloud backup...
No ripple lock or multi-window, but then after all the other stuff I doubt there's space for it...

It's good. Try it, but take all the usual precautions.

Ah yes, tis been out for a few hours, and yes I have updated my fone to v4.12

runs as sweet as, took only 3min 12 sec to install

does a full wipe of your phone so you will need to backup what you want

We now have some decent and reliable files to flash. The brick bug is avoided completely as the defective kernel coding is removed.

[ROM][XXLSJ][CWM] Simplistic Completely Stock Deodexed Rooted

Green circle battery

[Mod] 4 shortcut on lock screen + smart rotation and ripple lock

and lastly the ripple effect mod to go with the previous mod

If you try this and are having battery drain issues, disable Google Now. It's a bit of a hog.

The rom is quite stable, smooth and full of S3 eye candy and special features. Even as an early JB release I'd definitely recommend giving it a try.

Darn I was so happy with my gingerbread 2.3.6 ... Tell me apart from eye candy are there any advantages to Android 4.x apart from also the ability to instal chrome?

It'll still make calls and run most apps exactly the same, so on that point 2.3.6 is perfectly fine. Under 4.1.2 it'll probably use more battery to do it, but will look much nicer and have a few more features. The decision to upgrade must be yours of course, but some of the features are pretty nice.

Apart from eye candy and a greatly improved launcher (including folders in dock and better app drawer sorting) direct call is handy , JB notifications are a huge improvement, as are configurable short-cuts on lock-screen  I'm also liking the 50gb Dropbox upgrade (stays even if you revert).

For the first time since last May I'm running a near stock phone with root, a few minor mods and some apps removed. The UI is a huge improvement over the GB and even ICS versions of touchwiz. I've actually ditched my 3rd party lockscreen and launchers in favour of stock (!!!).

To put it simply it's just an enhancement which will likely use more battery (like nearly any upgrade). Your phone will still do everything that makes it a phone, it'll just be nicer. ;)

I'm getting pretty good battery life though, last night before flashing a deodexed version of the rom I was at 61% after 6 hours uptime, 2 ¼ hours screen on (2000MAh Samsung battery). YMMV of course, and I'm a heavy user but it's going nicely for me.

In my dropbox account it says Samsung promotion expires and gives the date as 2 years time.
I've been playing around with the slide keyboard and have found it not as accurate as swype. I hope it will learn the more I use it!
Also my battery is much better with this JellyBean than the custom roms I've used lately
