kiwitrc: Isnt this a Galaxy Note 2? Might be best to take the discussion to the Note 2 thread, this thread is long enough without adding additional products.

There is not Note 2 thread available and s3 uses the same system.

Apart from this one you mean http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=97&topicid=110226

Okay here is a bug I found with I9300XXDLJ4 UK firmware where it used to work with Poland ROM.
My default keyboard will always roll back to Samsung one whether I changed it inside the Language and Input setting.
The only way to by pass this is to remove Samsung Keyboard from System/App.

My Swiftkey 3 can never survive the default keyboard as long Samsung one exist. Just a head up :)

Ahh that's new: Go Keyboard seems to work with this firmware.

Apologies if this has been covered, I tried searching for "jelly bean S3", but couldn't find my issue.

I'm running a stock Voda S3. I keep getting "no update available" when I go into Settings>About device>Software update Tried using Kies, but it required me first to update Kies, and now gives me "this device is not recognised by Kies 2.0"

Since it seems pretty much every other S3 has JB, how can I get it?

When I had a similar issue with my Nexus 7 - it kept saying "no update available" when 4.1.2 came out OTA, even though my wife's Nexus 7 DID update, I was given the following advice:

-----------------------------------
Try Force Closing then clearing the data for the Google Services Framework application. Then reboot and check for updates.
-----------------------------------

and it worked just fine. Will the same thing work for my S3?

One simple word is NO.
Vodafone S3 firmware still on iCS. You would be lucky to get it by end of this month. If you want it then flash your S3 with the unbranded UK, Poland or others country firmware using Odin.
Download firmware from XDA or Sammobile.com

Flashing won't lose any of your data if you don't repartition your Sdcard.
Google a topic on how to flash firmware on S3 and you will find many threads about it. Or try NZtechfreak site.
I think it calls Androidnz.com

Thanks - I can testify that it didn't work, since I tried in the interim. REALLY hacked off with Voda though - their helpdesk guy said "my S3 is on JB, it's a manufacturer issue, ring them"

THANK YOU - why do none of your helpdesk staff have this information to share? It can't be that hard to let them know to save customers wasting an evening on hold.

Think of the information overload they get as it is now, Front line staff are not trained to know every single Android version and what is coming next or when it might come next or if it's failed testing or what stage it's at,

Be like any of us who gone forward with manually flashing UK ROM. I'm using Jelly bean now and I can't and never want to go back to ICS. If you really want to wait for Vodafone firmware then you will have to wait for at least a month away or realistically sometimes December. But it could be January 2013. You can always flash back to Vodafone firmware once it is released.

Yes, now that I know that Vodafone won't be updating to Jelly Bean anytime this side of the Sun going supernova [while not informing their helpdesk staff because it "changes to quick" (sic)] I will definitely have to do this. Like telcos everywhere, Voda obviously has no interest in upgrading, when they'd rather flog new handsets. It would save hours of wasted hold time if they would just instruct frontline staff to say so.

This is why the locked the thread on the VFNZ forum cause of reactions like this, Talk about first world problems!!

If you had reviewed the thread you posted in you would of seen JB is now in testing for the S3 sold by Vodafone NZ but oh no you would rather think the worse,

John

Neat trick - how did you get to edit your post without having it show up as having been edited? the last bit that went "everyone is out against you" has gone now. It wasn't true of course, I'm not paranoid, just lazy. I'm quite capable of  upgrading my phone's OS myself, I just couldn't be bothered, thinking Voda might get around to it one day. You personally cheered me up no end, by quite literally making me laugh out loud with your last reply in that Voda forum thread - the irony of VodaNz, ultra-sluggish in providing JB to its customers, saying that frontline staff weren't kept informed because it changed "to quick" was genuinely hilarious and left me in a very good mood. I'm not sure if the risibility was intentional or not, but it certainly lifted my spirits, thanks.

Samsung provides us with the handset update for testing, Testing / approval takes about 1 week if we find no issues, Then Samsung New Zealand go back to Samsung Korea and request the update to be loaded into Kies / OTA so customers can update their handsets,

example Samsung S2 from the time Vodafone NZ approved ICS for the S2 it took many weeks for Samsung Korea to get the update into Kies / OTA, Check out the thread on the Vodafone NZ forum,

Samsung Korea are the ones that push out the update after it's approved and I bet they are very busy
