otari:
The One X for $800 is a great deal, I paid more than that to import with no GST. The GS3 will be $200 to 300 more expensive. But if cost is no object, wait another week and try out the GS3.

The SGS3 is only $149 more expensive @ $949 at Warehouse Stationery too

Tough call though, I think the One-X looks better, but the GS3 looks so far to beat it in every respect.  I will however have both next Tues/Weds, and I'll be keeping both ;)

Time to sell the SGS2, and SGS1 though...I will miss them both

So does anyone know what versions the 2degrees and Vodafone sold One X's are running? Are they 1.26 as well or have they already received updates?

I have a 2degrees HOX, that came with 1.26 but got the 1.28 upgrade OTA about two weeks ago. No sign of 1.29 as yet.

Did you notice much of a difference going from 1.26 to 1.28?

Hard to say as it was within the first two weeks of having the phone, so it was not a stable environment for testing :-) I could not honestly put my finger on any differences. Battery life is currently OK, but then i frequently charge my phone at home and at my desk at work so no reliable basis for comparison there either. I'm just waiting for 1.29 (radio upgrade) so I can go to a custom ROM and get rid of that stupid menu bar on half the apps I use.

Haha, yeah I probably won't!

Going from SGS2 to One-X I haven't missed it at all, especially not while playing Need For Speed :) or net browsing

Interestingly (or not, depending on your perspective) a HTC blog featured on engadget overnight detailing upgades for legacy devices to ICS. In it they also commented that it can be up to 45 days for carrier specific releases after the generic release so there still might be a while to wait for the telecom release for 1.28 let alone 1.29! I assume the okayed version is sent back to HTC for installation and rollout from their servers, and a telco from an island on the bottom of the world probably isn't that high on their priorities. Having said that, it is interesting that 2D have updated already. Shows young and nimble vs. old and staid I guess.

Oh, and the reason I found the blog interesting is that it finally 'fessed up that my DesireHD can expect ICS in Jul/Aug. Glad I went ahead and just got the HOX.

edit: changed some fomatting.

The reason I ask is that there are two things that irk me about the phone. The first is the battery life (I barely make it through a work day), and I'm doing the same stuff on this phone as I was with my iPhone 4S which would last almost 24 hours. The second is the random, but often, lag when swiping between home screens depending on what's on them which for me just ruins the overall experience of using the phone.

I'm too new to Android to know the answer but some apps have much smoother scrolling than others so I don't know if those are directly related to the app or falls into the same boat as the system lag.

I'd heard that 1.28 and above addressed both of these issues.

From what I've seen of the Samsung Galaxy S III it looks to be super smooth so I'm hoping something happens soon, because to be honest those two issues I have are enough to make me want to switch!

@corksta

1.28/1.29 brings much improved battery life. Can't remember any noticeable homescreen stutter so cannot say for sure

fallen: I am currently looking at upgrading my phone (Samsung Galaxy S). The current deal of $799 for the HTC One X at the Warehouse Stationery is very tempting. Those that have the phone, would you recomend the HTC One X as a good phone to buy or should I wait for the S3 to be released and then make up my mind on which phone to buy....

It's only a week now until the S3 comes out, I think it better to wait and see how the chips fall!

Thanks for the reply. I think I will wait for the S3 to be relased and then make up my mind. The locked bootloader and S-off issue has me leaning towards the S3....

I did some thinking over getting the S3 vs the One X.

The one main thing that has me wanting the HTC One X over the S3 is the camera.

From what I've read, the HTC One X does really well with night / low light photo's compared to other mobile phones. The daylight shots appear to be pretty good too. I know that the S3 has a really good camera in daylight. However, half the time when I want to take a photo, light is a factor so the HTC will be a better option. I'm not buying the phone only as a camera (I have a good camera). I just find that this time round, this is probably the defining feature for me when comparing One X vs S3.

I know I can get an S3 and get a faster, better gps, unlocked bootloader based device but to be honest, I think the One X will be fast enough. I don't use gps that much. The bootloader problem is going to be solved eventually.

Both have awesome screens.

S3 might win on battery life.. but the One X will probably improve with optimisations over time. If it remains an issue in 12 months, a better phone will be available.

I'd wait and see how the cameras stack up if that is your primary concern, there probably won't be that much in it despite the f/2.0 aperture in the One X (it's shots are so noisy that it doesn't realise much of the advantage). In low light conditions I think the One X will still have a distinct edge though.

Check out my review at the Telecom Tech blog, and make sure to participate in my wee camera shoot out too: http://www.geekzone.co.nz/TelecomTech/8112

Yep, we are so close to the S3 release, that I will likely wait, just to see what the launch brings in way of new information.

I've already reviewed a lot of the camera shots at various sites (seems like quite a few places have got hold of the S3 by now for review/preview and uploaded various shots taken with it's camera).

I know that it's argued the S3 shots are better in good light but I'm ok with "pretty good" for daytime and for low light / night shots (OneX) vs great daytime shots and not so great low light shots (S3).

Definitely though, maybe with the S3 release there will be more details on the low light performance so I can finalise my decision.
