First time caller..just tryin to help out my poor old mum.

The situation:

I bought a TG585 off trademe - configured it at my place on mums laptop, through my telecom broadband account

Mum gets home, signs up with slingshot, she receives a call saying broadband is connected. Plus in the router, opens explorer and is asked for a username and password.

I didn't (well I don't remember) setting up a username or password originally. Oh and Slingshot haven't givem her a username or password yet - just a computor generated voice saying teh broadband is on.

Am i missing something basic here, like mum should wait for her slingshot username etc - or is there some sort of prprietory software that telecom have on these routers that needs some additional configuration?

P{ease, i need som help my mum is driving me crazy

Eldricko

You will need to phone the Slingshot helpdesk and ask them for the username and password.
THOMSON TG585 Has the modems manuals and docs.

Manual says to access the modem you use either http://dsldevice.lan or 192.168.1.254
If you have protected your Thomson Gateway with a user name and password, the Thomson Gateway
will prompt you to enter these. Else Enter your user name and password and click OK.

If the modem has an unknown password then it will need a factory reset.

you configured the router earlier - so you managed to get into the router menu??? and now you can't, and you dont remember setting up a password? this is strange - sounds like it's been hacked into!

the default username is Administrator (case sensitive).
the default password is blank.

that's all i can say - it can be anything now if it's been modified - and i'm no psychic ...

Thanks - thinking it through I think its the slingshot user name and password that she needs. She can still access the configuration menus.

I'll see if I can talk her through it, a moderately frustrating exercise as she has been only using a pc for about 2 hours.
