Topic # 70771 30-Oct-2010 14:33 Send private message

I have a HP Pavilion a6260a Desktop PC, and it needs a upgrade. I've been running this comp on VGA mode as My comp somehow crashed and wrecked my 8400 gs graphics card.

Current Specs:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...uct=3562831#N67
Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4ghz
2GB DDR2 RAM
(NEED A GFX CARD)
500gb hd

So I need a new graphics card, ideally one that can run black ops alright.
I found this card seems pretty good, but requires a 400 WATT POWER SUPPLY, currently my power supply is only 300. http://www.computerlounge.co.nz/com...mp;ref=pricespy

So I need opinions on what graphics card to buy which will be alright for black ops, and only requires a 300 WATT POWER SUPPLY.

Or whether if I should purchase the gts450 card (ABOVE), and upgrade my power supply.

Please help me with making my decision, and linking me to differnt graphics cards or power supplys, or whatever your suggestions are.

Cheers..

I believe you will need to upgrade your PSU in order to run any card that can play Black Ops properly.

Upgrading PSU and Graphics card going to cost like $270-$310 Max, whereas getting a new system would be like over $1000 atleast for the box to be able to run black ops alright.

You definetly need a better PSU as most mid range cards which would be capable would require at least 400+ .

Get yourself something like a 650 watt PSU which will help your pc run a little less fragile as stretching your power supply is a good way to burn it out.

My PC is nearly identical to your stats except I'm running a HD4870 but really don't do a lot of PC gaming anymore got a couple of Xbox's to take care of most my gaming needs and just really use my PC in a HTPC setup but really wish i had a HDMI card instead of a DVI to HDMI cord.

Dont upgrade, and get an xbox/ps3. use it on a bigger screen, probably round the same price as upgrading your system? If you want a graphics card theres this computer shop at botany town center like, right next to starbucks on the other side of the doors, but still outside. they sell quite a lot of graphics cards there and they're not that expensive either

I think the $209 is ATI 5750
Get the HIS ATI 5770. http://bit.ly/cl9yay

Then pick one of the power supply >600 watt. I recommend the corsair 650w. If you have very tight budget, get coolermaster 650w http://bit.ly/9EW0ug

Just noticed that yeah ur correct.

I'll purchase the HIS RADEON ATI 5770

As for the PSU, do i really need more than 600w?, im kind of don't wanna spend to much so is there any supplies like $60-$100 which are good and will be pretty good for my machine?

A good power supply is really important. But if you have a very tight budget, get the coolermaster 550watt. Can you give me the link to your desktop spec again? Is it an HP desktop?
