My window to the world

Vodafone BestMate is out

By Mauricio Freitas, in , posted: 19-OCT-2006 07:37

Vodafone is launching a teaser viral campaign called BestMate, live now. On the welcome page Vodafone tells the world about a new plan called "Supa Prepay" to be launched when the current "Free TXT Weekends" and "Prepay Take10" plans end, at beginning of November 2006.

I haven't seen the whole thing working yet, but it looks like you can nominate a friend and have a quiz invitation sent to his/her mobile via SMS. Your BestMate then visits the site to enter the answers.

You are then in the draw to win a $10,000 trip for two to one of the following destinations: New York, Paris, Rio De Janeiro or the Maldives. The promotion closes 12 November 2006:

Vodafone Bestmate

So, if you receive a SMS inviting you to go the site and answer the quiz, it's not a hoax!

I guess that also answers the question as to whether free TXT weekends will be extended.

It will not be "extended". But keep an eye out for it.

Well, its better than what I expected... will be interesting to see what this new prepaid plan is and how much 'value' one gets out of it compared to On Account.

I haven't got an text about this yet, has any one else? Wonder how many mates you can have.

Author's note by freitasm, on 19-OCT-2006 08:23

The SMS notifications will start coming out soon, but AFAIK you can start using the site now!

Have just done the quiz and registered - looks like the invitation is emailed to your mate

Kind of annoying that on account customers get nothing like this.

Author's note by freitasm, on 19-OCT-2006 10:31

I was expecting cokemaster or sbiddle to complain about this point first...

Juha bet me.

Don't worry... I've already done a rant - just on IRC not the forums/blog

Sounds like there is a Vodafone SMS promotion offer for on account customers 1000 free texts in November, to keep them happier.

Looks like there is an SMS promotion being sent to on account customers to keep them happy - something like 1000 free texts in November

As far as I have been able to find out today, it's $6 for flat rate-type stuff (calls, video something and SMS, from the sign I saw) to one person. It seems nice, but as for me, I don't tend to call any particular person often enough to bother with this at this time. Oh well.

Sick of the viral marketing that's making you say 'just bloody well tell me'? Well, some folks at a local electronics store (whom I'm guessing other locals will be able to identify from the pictures below) decided to put out...

I got an analouge GSM gateway, and when my home phone rings, my mobile rings at the same time, and I can transfer the call back home to all for FREE. Works great one way, and I dont have to change my work account plan.
