I think this is a fantastic decision due to Eris being slightly larger than Pluto, and thus causing the debate about what a planet was, and ultimately led to plutos loss of planetary status!
The moon/satellite that orbits Eris is now known as Dysnomia - the goddess of lawlessness and daughter of Eris.
Fantastic choices, with a nice dose of irony. I think its a great move.
certainly worth a laugh, and will ensure that interest remains in the lesser members - yet no less interesting - of our solar family.
Eris was discovered by Michael E. Brown, Chad Trujillo, and David Rabinowitz.
it is known as a Trans-Neptunian object, Dwarf Planet or Scattered Disk Object.
