HD-DVD vs. Blu-Ray cease fire, thanks to LG Electronics launch of Dual format Player.

, posted: 9-Jan-2007 10:53

LG Electronics (LG), a leader in consumer electronics and mobile communications, announced that it will launch the world's first dual-format high-definition disc player, capable of playing both Blu-ray Disc and HD DVD content. The unit will be released in the United States in early 2007. Details will be provided at the 2007 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES), held January 8–11 in Las Vegas.

LG expects this technological breakthrough to end the confusion and inconvenience of competing high-definition disc formats for both content producers and consumers ---"

Hopefully this will stop the Betamax vs VHS fight like many have been predicting.

personally I feel this was a pretty obvious step, hell it wouldnt be that hard to have two lasers in the devices, so surely this will be the easiest fix.

Details to be announced at CES.

LG is good at making fusion style boxes, like HD setop box + DVD player which have output of DVI and D-SUB as well as components, and capable of upscaling up to 1080i in year 2001 or 2.

The Koreans in general seem to be producing some very very high quality stuff now as well as being innovative. Japan RIP.
