Telstra fires blogging staffer calling for open communications

, posted: 8-OCT-2006 13:39

TelstraBeen meaning to congratulate Telstra in Australia for keeping up with things and allowing staff to blog at Now We Are Talking but.... but, I don't think I will do it now.

Tom Reynolds, formerly a Case Manager with Telstra's National Customer Relationship Team, wrote this blog entry over on Now We Are Talking. It's all about honesty in corporate blogs, with plenty of references to mega-blogger Robert Scoble and how he went about it all. Reynolds posted the entry Wednesday last week.

On Friday, he rang Cameron Reilly to say he'd been fired from Telstra.

Reading Reynolds' blog entry and this item on News.com.au, I find it hard to believe that Telstra would do such a thing. Is it really so bad to have more honesty, truth and open communications, even if you're a large telco?

Telstra meanwhile is denying it sacked Reynolds because of the blog entry, but... nobody seems to believe them. :)

Every day I think why large corporations are not embracing blogs. We all know why: they wouldn't sell as much, probably.

Juha, let me asure you Tom Reynold's departure from Telstra has nothing to do with his blogging.

His blogs have been interesting and we're sorry to lose him as a member of our team of staff writers.

Thanks Rod. It looked like it was The Curse of the Blog that felled Tom... hmm. I guess we won't be told why he left?

Until and unless companies that fire bloggers say why they fired that blogger, it's Occam's Razor.
