Police record Mel Gibson's anti-semitic rant after DUI bust

, posted: 30-JUL-2006 21:00

GibsonThe drunk driving is one thing, but Mad Max seems to be completing the full circle here, or perhaps the downward spiral that started with with the historically bogus Braveheart and continued with The Passion of the Christ, a film that was branded as anti-semitic by many critics.

Could it get worse? Well, David Farrar over at Kiwiblog tipped me off about this TMZ story.

TMZ says that a drunk Gibson was very aggressive, threatening and hurled anti-semitic abuse against the officer arresting him for driving while drunk.

Gibson has admitted to the drunk driving and said he was out of control. He's apologised for that, but has not said anything about the alleged anti-semitic tirade.

Link to PDF file of what TMZ says are four pages of the original report written by LA County Sheriff Deputy James Mee under "More Information".

Update The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) has issued a statement on Gibson's drunken anti-semitic tirade.

ADL National Director Abraham Foxman says:

Mel Gibson's apology is unremorseful and insufficient. It's not a proper apology because it does not go to the essence of his bigotry and his anti-Semitism.

His tirade finally reveals his true self and shows that his protestations during the debate over his film "The Passion of the Christ," that he is such a tolerant, loving person, were a sham. It may well be that the bigotry has been passed from the father to the son. It is unfortunate that it took an excess of booze and an encounter with a traffic cop to reveal what was really in his heart and mind.

We would hope that Hollywood now would realize the bigot in their midst and that they will distance themselves from this anti-Semite.

Update II The inimicable Kiwi Herald has the scoop on Israel demanding the extradition of Mel Gibson.

Update III And some South Park to go with it all:

Its a shame that Mel has slipped back into the bottle. We may never know the circumstances behind this, but Mel's drunken rants has provided the public a direct peipeline into the workings of his mind (out of control or not.) Guess he blames the Jews.......for a lot of things.

Anyway, here's our official response to this "event"

I have been a tad suspect of Mel since Passion of the Christ, but now, with his new look ( check him out, he sure is looking like Saddam to me), and his recent anti semetic outbursts and problems with alcohol, well Mel, you need to stop, take a deep breath, and hold it. I have always wondered why the personal opinions of actors and such, are of such interest to the population at large, THEY ARE ACTORS, period, some intelligent, some ignorant, but still, ACTORS, SINGERS, ,ARTISTS, not contributing anything to the world as a rule, (yes, there are some exceptions), but as a rule, who really cares about the opinions of Tom Cruise, Mel Gibson, or any other celebrity who has the ability to use the media to express their personal issues and complaints, opinions and desires to the world at large. We as a world community need to address the issues that affect the world today.

Kenny: agreed, but there's no denying that films like Braveheart and The Passion of Christ have enormous power to influence people. Well, some people at least.

Wonder when South Park will pick up on Mel's great drink and drive adventure?

Comment by zaniack, on 31-JUL-2006 13:15

why is it that all I can find on this website is how terrible mel gibsons movie was, what an evil hitler lover he is, and comment after comment of how insignificant his opinions are. Oh yes and if you look real close and hard you can find a tiny link to a crummy illegable PDF of a police report ?

Typical liberal media spin, do your selves a favor, find a conservative web site, read a transcript and THINK FOR YOUR SELF,

Ill probally get flamed by every tree hugger on the planet but ...... oh well, I will find a transcript and decide for my self.

What's wrong with Mel Gibson? And more importantly, when will South Park replay the Passion of the Christ episode?

Author's note by juha, on 31-JUL-2006 13:56

I think Mel has a few issues... well, not a few. A whole bag of them by the sound of it.

Here's a Gibsonesque excerpt from South Park episode 804 Passion of the Jew.

I think the South Park guys make the episodes available on Bittorrent after they've run, so you could always search for number 804 I guess.

Author's note by juha, on 31-JUL-2006 14:44

I don't know if Mel's an Evil Hitler Lover. He doesn't seem to like Jews much though.

Comment by Zaniack, on 31-JUL-2006 17:19

Juha,

please read to the end,,,,,,,,,,

the title of the article is:

Police record Mel Gibson's anti-semitic rant after DUI bust:

CO/Wiccapedia, antisemitism means:

Anti-Semitism is hostility toward or prejudice against Jews as a religious, ethnic, or racial group, which can range from individual hatred to institutionalized, violent persecution. The highly explicit ideology of Adolf Hitler's Nazism was the most extreme example of this phenomenon, leading to a genocide of the European Jewry.

thus the hitler coment

My premise was that the media presented here appeares to be bias,

HOW EVER since my last post Ive learned your critisism and disdain is justified, my bad, it was worse than I thought

(ps: Love south park, Ill be looking for this one too)

To the moron that called tree huggers "liberals" if you were truly a conservative "evangelical christian" you would be calling tree huggers "conservatives" because if these people were true christians - they would care about this planet, it creatures and not drive the bush "signature" vehicle - a hummer, continue to breed etc.

Comment by Nicole, on 2-AUG-2006 17:22

Well, as expected everyone has listened to the media and deemed themselves above reproach. None of us has ever said or done ANYTHING that we bitterly regret let alone been under the influence of some substance when doing it.

Maybe there is a very deeply planted seed that came from Mel Gibson's father's ignorance that even Mel didn't know about but what more do you want someone to do? He's humbling himself SO much. He's asking for help from the Jewish leaders. He's constantly apologising - and he DID apologise for his comments, not just his actions, don't steal that from the reality of this whole thing - and he will be doing so for a long time.

I wish all of us had learnt one of the major lessons from "The Passion of The Christ" and that is that NONE of us are above reproach. Go ahead and keeping casting stones if you think you're perfect but I'm sure many of you have thought nasty little thoughts (maybe even said something) about Arabs, the muslim faith, even the christian faith calling us a bunch of hypocrites or worse.

The truth is - and there are THREE sides to any situation; two perceptions and reality - we're all guilty of prejudice, it's just that he was caught out and the world was told.

Author's note by juha, on 2-AUG-2006 21:59

Thank you Nicole, good comment. That said, Mel Gibson is by his own chosing a very prominent figure in society and has to expect to receive wider attention than Joe Average for what he says. Maybe people will listen to him regretting his actions as well.

Author's note by juha, on 2-AUG-2006 22:13

Mel Gibson's statement with apology over what said when he was arrested:

There is no excuse, nor should there be any tolerance, for anyone who thinks or expresses any kind of anti-Semitic remark. I want to apologize specifically to everyone in the Jewish community for the vitriolic and harmful words that I said to a law enforcement officer the night I was arrested on a DUI charge.

I am a public person, and when I say something, either articulated and thought out, or blurted out in a moment of insanity, my words carry weight in the public arena. As a result, I must assume personal responsibility for my words and apologize directly to those who have been hurt and offended by those words.

The tenets of what I profess to believe necessitate that I exercise charity and tolerance as a way of life. Every human being is God's child, and if I wish to honor my God I have to honor his children. But please know from my heart that I am not an anti-Semite. I am not a bigot. Hatred of any kind goes against my faith.

I'm not just asking for forgiveness. I would like to take it one step further, and meet with leaders in the Jewish community, with whom I can have a one on one discussion to discern the appropriate path for healing.

I have begun an ongoing program of recovery and what I am now realizing is that I cannot do it alone. I am in the process of understanding where those vicious words came from during that drunken display, and I am asking the Jewish community, whom I have personally offended, to help me on my journey through recovery. Again, I am reaching out to the Jewish community for its help. I know there will be many in that community who will want nothing to do with me, and that would be understandable. But I pray that that door is not forever closed.

This is not about a film. Nor is it about artistic license. This is about real life and recognizing the consequences hurtful words can have. It's about existing in harmony in a world that seems to have gone mad.

Comment by Michael, on 9-AUG-2006 10:55

These comments provide some interesting reading. Personally, I think that although inappropriate, people shouldn't be judged entirely by the events of one drunken display.....after all, the vast majority of us are not perfect.

Yes, people like Hitler were bad (slight understatement), but his aim was for the better of his people....despite the plan being insane.

The Christian faith is also not without extreme sins, I've seen this personally in the war in Bosnia.....add to that the Muslim faith.

The jewish community in this case, shouldn't read too much into this, despite the publicity....and remember that if you keep bringing up the past, you will have a very sad future, as I said....no one race is perfect.

As for 'Braveheart' and 'Passion of the Christ', I personally thought they were good MOVIES....I didn't judge them on race or opinion.

In summation, judge not lest ye be judged yourself.

I saw the passion film. It was infantile and unrealistic. No one could survive such floggings and the hollywood approach of flogged/beaten/ shot today ok tomorrow is based on ignorence of what such injuries do to us. As far as "anti semitic" I saw no trace of it...and I emphatically looked for it. I think this was no more than "par for the course" over the so said killing of the man they called the Christ. One thing is certain...the Romans didn't want to kill him but were given little alternative by those who saw him as a 'blasphemer'...another convenient but absurd accusation and another and convenient reaon to murder someone. Such presentations of "God's wishes" are truly absurd and an insult to any intelligence with which it might be endowed.

Tragically the value gleaned from "anti semitism" accusations has seen such accusations become "mantras-on-cue" which insult the intelligence but serve a political purpose. The purpose of the "Anti defammation league" is to perpetuate the resistance to any examination of Jewish affairs. The ADL is one of the many tools Mossad uses in its world wide search for power and in its well documented espionage and obfuscations. Most of us, who have intelligence and the ability to think for ourselves can differentiate between different jewish people, different behaviour, belief and behaviour, between your average Jewish person and Mossad, between them, followers of their particular orthodoxies and Zionism. We have the right to criticise without being abused and accused. As far as bigotry goes, certainly there is irrational accusation and cruel acts and accusations against Jewish people and practice. At the same time the Jewish news press is a fountian of bigotry and seems dedicated to creating hatred. The holocaust (sacrifice)has been a very effective tool for gaining Israel and for continuing power plays for Israel however the knee jerk reaction to any examination of it which is not subservient is so bitterly attacked makes me wonder what they are worried examination might turn up. No Jew should have died in those camps but there were at least as many of other faiths, creeds, homosexuals, mentally ill, deformed, and so on including Gypsies and Christians and at Treblinka a Nazi Officers wife and children. A catholic priest Max Kolbe was only one of the people who gave his life to save others and we know some Kommandants respected their promises to these brave souls. The huge deliberately ignored mystery, or perhaps truth worth eexamination is Hitler's releasing of thousands of Jews as payment to his physiotherapist who was the only person able to relieve him of his headaches.

As one of the hidden reports about Hitler it is quite compelling and like Hitler's blindness, studiously ignored..

Unfortunately truths are lies written by the victors. We deserve the real truth whether the ADL or anyone else likes it or not...we have too many sacred cows which mislead our behaviour , generation after generation.

I draw to your attention that the great excuse for murder and pillage of all religions based on Judaism is so often, like stonings" and other "cave man", or perhaps even earlier styled bestialities is invariably "God's wishes"...This is utter and unintelligent and ignorent absurdity but is a part of the mindless cultural indoctrination and a very convenient excuse. Christians are followers of Christ, not of God and if God really made such rulings for vengeance it would certainly be the 'antichrist' for the rulings of jesus were th opposite. Sadly we have tpo tolerate the rise and rise of primitive and plagarised religions even in this much more enlightened and scientific and caring age.

The bais of all advancement is "let him who is without sin cast the first stone"...but in that also must come a recognition of the politics of religion. Mel Gibson went a bit lame brained however one might ask the question "If Arab land was not given to form the state of Israel, would the world be a happier and more peaceful place"...in the light of documented world-wide destabilisation and assassinations by Mossad...with the support of its politicians...as documented by Mossad agets Ari ben Menashe and Viktor Ostrovsky, for two alone....it is a question completely devoid of bigotry and one which deserves serious and profound examination. Politico-religious sacred cows by their very nature are injustices perpetrated on the ordinary people (Serfs) by the privileged and powerful (the barons).

Let us no longer foment hatreds in affected people by refusing to profoundly and openly examine examine disputes...whether against Israel or Australia, USA or Spain or wherever the matters arise or against some religion or another...or against a belief. Let us look t people's ideas without lowerbing ourselves to irrational and unsubstantiated accusations which attack people who refuse to worship the sacred cow. Cheers Jack.
