< Previous cardboard idea

My mum bought one of those cheap Apple Universal Dock knockoffs while she was in Hong Kong... I didn't actually want one, but hey, when it fits right and works great, you can't possibly turn it down (it has 3.5mm Line Out, standard 30-pin connector and S-Video, which I haven't tested yet)

You can see the mess of cables in the lower right corner... ugh.

And here's the 4th part in my DIY thing - yes, my little "table" was something I made because I needed more room and I got a keyboard, for my now mostly desk-bound laptop. I couldn't afford to get another monitor (plus 15.4" is plenty!), so I made this in about 3/4 of an hour (mostly because I used a handsaw)

I plan to get a 80mm fan installed underneath it. Maybe even make one for my cousin's ultra-hot MacBook. Those things heat up like a frying pan!

Are those books ever used under the laptop??

They definitely are!

They're very good reference material - sometimes the Internet isn't always here, and it's good to have something which won't put me off my homework :)

Instead of laying flat down on the deskstand, you can add a bumper at the back of the laptop so it has gap below the laptop for airflow and that should be sufficient.
