It's true, it happened to a friend of a friend of mine...

Gagging on bones.

, posted: 22-Jun-2008 14:00

One morning last week, I definitely heard someone say on radio that the Children of Israel were in Babylon for seventy years (quote) as a result of not having done things the right way (unquote). Oh great. I nearly gagged. Nothing to do with sin, with disobeying God. Does that mean I will go to hell if I don't do things right?

Now that really sounds like 'religion' to me. Becuase I am never going to do ALL things right all the time.

So, how about some texts to help you understand why 'Christians aren't perfect...' And maybe they could try a bit harder, too. I will keep them all in the New King James version, which is what I use. (Poor old Bible, it's nearly falling apart. actually it is - I keep it together in a bright orange see through cover...)

1 John 2:1 says 'My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.'

1 John 1:8 ' If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.' Going on to...
1 John 1:9 'If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.'

What else, as I do not want to be accused of pulling one verse out of the Bible and making (false) doctrine out of it...

How about 1 Peter 1:15 and 16? 'but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, (16) because it is written, "Be holy, for I am holy." '

Peter again - 2 Peter 3:11 'Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness,'

Here's one you will need to really trust your 'brothers' in, to do - James 5:16 'Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.' (That's the whole verse, not just some of it, FYI!)

(And - Good thing I do not need 'inclusive' language to be saved, appeased (whatever). This inclusive language nonsense really bugs me. If I, as a woman, am a son of God, as the bible says, then it's good enough for me.)

So, Yes, I am to strive for holiness and godliness, but when I sin, I confess my sins and I am forgiven. Just as I was forgiven that first day I believed in Jesus of Nazareth as the Messiah.

Here's a bit for the future - Jesus is going to rule and reign with a rod of iron.

Revelation 19:11 - 16 says
11 Now I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse. And He who sat on him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war.
12 His eyes were like a flame of fire, and on His head were many crowns. He had a name written that no one knew except Himself.
13 He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God.
14 And the armies in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, followed Him on white horses.
15 Now out of His mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it He should strike the nations. And He Himself will rule them with a rod if iron. He Himself treads the winepress of the fireceness and wrath of Almighty God.
16 And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written:

What if He ruled us with a rod of iron today? Who could be saved? What if I was there when he rules with that rod of iron, and I sinned. Ouch.

So, Israel was not held in captivity, in Babylon, because they 'didn't do things the right way'.

We are not saved by doing things the 'right way'.

Here's one from the Old Testament. Micah 6:8 says 'He has shown you, O man, what [is] good; And what does the LORD require of you But to do justly, To love mercy, And to walk humbly with your God?'

1 Samual 15:22 'So Samuel said: "Has the LORD [as great] delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, As in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, [And] to heed than the fat of rams.'

The words here in brackets are added in english to make sense, as sometimes happens in translating into another language. I just haven't put the others up top into brackets. My slack.

Oops. I mean, I didn't do it the right way. Oh oh I'm in trouble now...

Actually, did you pick it up? We are saved by forgiveness. Look back at my blog - The Day That Changed My Life. We go on afterwards to obey, to do justly, love mercy, walk humbly with our God. Confessing our sins, we obey what Jesus said. We put an end to our evil ways, because we want to be holy as He is holy.

It's just not 'doing things the right way'. Because sometimes people can do all the right things and spoil it with their inner thoughts and intentions.  It's being right with God. Being. Not doing.

Phew!  That was hard to get down on 'paper'...

I get really annoyed when people preach.

I can choose to ignore it, as I have done so in the past on this site, but this site is not a religous medium, it a tech based site, so there is no reason why religion should be discussed here...there are more appropriate sites for such discussion.

I am not religous myself, and thats my position, I dont push that on other people, and I respect those who are religous, unless they want to debate with me, but they too should respect my stance and allow others to make up thier own minds, thus keep thier opinion to themselves.

I am not going to get into an arguement as to who is and isnt a good person, who is right or wrong...I would much rather we respect each others beliefs, keep them to ourselves and not shove them into the face of others on this site, and leave it at that.

Hi there, I'll be brave and publish your comments.  I do try to get the general gist of what I am going to say in the first few lines so you know what you are reading.  Hope you read this!  Regards, Linda.

I appreciate you posting my comments Linda, I was not sure how you would respond.

Let me also point out that I do not agree or disagree with what you state in your blog posts, and I respect your stance/beliefs on such matters, and I do not wish to put you off blogging...

And of course you are free to blog about whatever you want, but personally, I would prefer the conversation of a tech site be kept to technology.

I wish you the best in your future blogging Linda, take care.

Thanks Euan.  I hope I never have to delete a blog comment, unless it's from a friend and more personal than should be made public.  I guess I was more thinking along the lines of preaching to the converted.  Certainly not trying to blow someone's mind away with too much information.  Whcih there was.  (And hubby will tell you I can get carried away sometimes...)
