New Zealand Herald Online Subscriptions - What a joke

, posted: 4-Aug-2006 10:34

New Zealand Herald introduced a subscription model on its premium articles sometime last year.  When trying to access premium items; you get greeted with a login screen that looks something like this:

I just want to say that this login screen is a complete joke; you can bypass the login screen and view the item for free by replacing “http://login.nzherald.co.nz/?redir=http://www” with subs.

For example for the URL
http://login.nzherald.co.nz/?redir=http://www.nzherald.co.nz/column/story.cfm?c_id=702&ObjectID=10394398

Replace:
http://login.nzherald.co.nz/?redir=http://www

With: Subs
 To make: subs.nzherald.co.nz/column/story.cfm?c_id=702&ObjectID=10394398

For some reason; the company has not encrypted the page with anything secure…

I have also noted, and have done this for some time if you search for some of the new articles you can also view if for free, via the NZ Herald Search option.

What I used to do is copy the title into Google and Google will be able to find the page for you, but Google does not index ALL articles... this method should be able to acces articles

Possibly, but it has never been secured; nor password protected. APN's main priority and income stream is still within advertising. If they havent done it by now; I dont think they will do it
