2006 #geekzone King Of The Internet Challenge

Yup... thats right, the first annual #geekzone King Of The Internet Challenge.

What.T.F. is that you say? Well, the short answer is that its still being developed.

Outwit, outplay, outlast, and all that jazz. The K.O.T.I. challenge will test your muscle in the world of the internet. You will need to prove your proficiency in browsing the web, connecting to various services to gain information and answers to clues (legally!!), following trails of clues and information around the internet, each time returning to home base to feed your answer into the system to see if you are correct, and to be issued with your next set of instructions.

With an automated mandatory rest stop between clues (arrive with a clue, get a marked correctly by the system and be issued your next clue a few mins later), there will be time to chat with any fellow competitors who are on their break at the same time as you, as well as any spectators (in our IRC channel).

A list of basic system requirements will be posted soon, nothing horrendous, but the ability to browse the web, view pictures, listen to audio files, watch videos (formats to be decided, possibly youtube or google video), and connect to irc is going to be the basics of it.

I anticipate providing a list of freeware and / or opensource software for the Windows, Mac & Linux platforms, that will enable full participation in the event.

Thats about it so far. If you would like to be involved in this, let me know, i'd like to hear from:

  • People keen on competing
  • People keen on helping build the challenge (and therefore excluding themselves from entering)
  • Anyone keen to sponsor the event with a prize or two (naming rights available)
Im not sure if this has been done before, and no date is set for it yet. Depending on interest and level of sponsorship/prizes, it could be a 30 minute challenge, or a 2 hour challenge.

Any suggestions or comments? Leave em below...

(#geekzone is our IRC chat room on DALnet, and will be 'home base' for the challenge, a place to get clues, lodge your answers, and chat with competitors, spectators and the referee(s))
