HP Helps Telecoms Grow Revenue with On-demand Cloud Services for SMBs

, posted: 8-Jun-2011 17:07

Press release received during the HP Discover 2011:

HP Enterprise Services today announced enhancements to the company's hybrid delivery cloud solutions, offering telecom companies the agility they need to quickly enter the small and medium-size business (SMB) market with revenue-generating on-demand communications services.

HP Cloud Services Enablement for Communications as a Service (HP CSE for CaaS) enables communications service providers (CSPs) to help their SMB customers take advantage of utility pricing and the flexibility of the on-demand services model. HP CSE for CaaS is part of the broader HP CSE for CSP portfolio, which also includes solutions for Infrastructure as a Service and Device Management as a Service.

HP CSE for CaaS enables wireless, wireline and broadband companies to offer SMBs a ?one-stop shop? for IT and communications services such as messaging, collaboration and automated voice services.

By leveraging cloud services and paying only for what they use, CSPs can offer their SMB clients the ability to:

- Improve productivity and create a competitive advantage with access to state-of-the-art communications services.

- Maximise their IT budgets with predictable costs and minimal capital investment.

- Mitigate risks of deploying new technology, enabling SMBs to focus less on IT systems and more on core business objectives.

For CSPs, HP CSE for CaaS enables CSPs to transform their traditional business models and build new sources of revenue with on-demand communications services that SMBs can consume from customised bundles that suit their specific business needs.

?CSPs can drive revenue from the growing cloud-based services market with these new HP solutions,? said Carlos Quaderi, Director and General Manager, Communications and Media Solutions, HP Enterprise Services South Pacific.

?HP CaaS, along with HP's ability to bridge IT and telecom requirements, enables CSPs to get to market quickly with ?pay as you go,' on-demand services that SMBs need.

HP cloud solution offers rapid time to revenue and flexibility HP CSE for CaaS enables CSPs to quickly launch a cloud service business. The platform accommodates a wide variety of on-demand services from CSPs and third parties, and accelerates time-to-market with three pre-integrated service families for SMBs:

- Messaging: Based on Microsoft? Exchange 2010, these services include full-featured email, calendar, contact management, integrated voice mail and email archiving.

- Collaboration: To drive cooperation among remote teams, HP has included Microsoft SharePoint 2010 for improved productivity and business process management; HP Virtual Room for full-featured web conferencing; and HP Audio Conference, a reservation-less solution that can be combined with HP Virtual Room.

- Business Voice: Enabling SMBs to handle incoming calls in an automated, professional manner, HP has pre-integrated systems based on the HP Network Interactive Voice Response, including Auto Attendant, Virtual Office Receptionist, Automatic Call Distribution and Call Recorder.

The core of HP CSE for CaaS is the HP Aggregation Platform for Software as a Service (HP AP4SaaS). It enables CSPs to integrate and cohesively present a wide variety of SaaS services via a new marketplace portal.

The platform automates key processes such as provisioning, activation, mediation, charging, revenue settlement and service assurance. With HP AP4SaaS, CSPs can create cost effective

cloud services bundles that simplify procurement and usage for SMB customers.

The HP AP4SaaS is the foundation for other offerings in the HP Cloud Service Enablement portfolio such as HP CSE for Device Management as a Service and HP CSE for Infrastructure as a Service, which is built on HP CloudSystem Service Provider.

Enhanced HP CloudSystem Delivers Industry-first Dual Bursting Capability

, posted: 8-Jun-2011 16:57

Press release received during the HP Discover 2011:

HP today announced an update to HP CloudSystem that delivers industry-first dual bursting? capability to enhance enterprise agility during peak periods. The new capability allows enterprises to dynamically scale and provision IT resources either via a public cloud provider or through an onsite pay-as-you-use cloud model.

This innovation helps clients to easily and quickly manage uneven service demands and ensure service availability at all times, while choosing the best approach to fit their needs. Clients are able to select expanded resources from a catalogue of HP-authorised Cloud Bursting partners. Others who want to maintain IT onsite can use pay-as-you-go resources from their own private clouds.

Either way, clients gain the agility required to capitalise on market opportunities, such as retailers expanding operations to handle increased sales during busy holiday seasons.

?To exploit the full benefits of cloud, like speeding innovation and time to revenue, clients need an integrated approach, not piecemeal solutions, said Kevin Rooney, Director, Enterprise Servers, Storage and Networking, HP South Pacific.

?With HP CloudSystem, HP is providing an integrated solution that provisions IT resources on demand, increasing agility as business needs change and ensuring application availability in peak periods.

HP CloudSystem provides the most complete, integrated and open platform that enables enterprises and service providers to build and manage services across private, public and hybrid cloud environments. HP's unique ?dual bursting? capability for managing uneven service demand using HP CloudSystem delivers the following benefits:

- Meet unanticipated demands through rapid deployment of IT resources by simply selecting the public bursting service from the infrastructure provisioning portal. Services will be offered by a network of certified bursting partners, under the HP CloudAgile umbrella, including launch partner, Savvis, a global leader in cloud infrastructure and hosted IT solutions for enterprises.

- Reduce costs of peak capacity with the HP Utility Ready Computing service. Through integration with HP CloudSystem, this service enables customers to burst to infrastructure that resides on their own sites, paying for resources only when they are in use. The service delivers compute capacity at a fixed price per blade per hour to reduce the risk of investment in underutilised equipment, smooth the acquisition process and move capital expenditures to operating expenses.

?Together with HP, we will enable clients to use the power of the cloud to ensure business process availability,? said Brian Klingbeil, general manager, Hosting, Savvis. ?Savvis will deliver extra bursting capacity to CloudSystem clients rapidly and with ease, so that they can quickly meet business demands.?

The enhanced HP CloudSystem additionally automates and simplifies provisioning management to improve operational efficiency by:

- Enabling clients to provision and manage a heterogeneous infrastructure from a single infrastructure portal, including VMware and Hyper-V virtual machines running on servers from non-HP x86 vendors.

- Automating provisioning of multitenant storage for the cloud with HP 3PAR Utility Storage, which can now be fully managed from HP CloudSystem. As a result, clients can improve operational efficiency of storage management tenfold and cut storage costs by up to 50 percent.

New HP CloudSystem configurations

HP CloudSystem is now tailored for the requirements of enterprises and service providers at various stages of cloud maturity with three offerings:

- Entry configuration for private clouds and infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) with HP CloudSystem Matrix that lets customers provision infrastructure and applications in minutes;

- Full-scale deployment of private and hybrid cloud environments with HP CloudSystem Enterprise, which lets customers unify management across private, public and hybrid clouds and adds advanced application to infrastructure life cycle management;

Advanced capabilities for service providers with HP CloudSystemService Provider, facilitating deployment of public and hosted private clouds that deliver complete service aggregation and management. CloudSystem Service Provider is the foundation of the Infrastructure as a Service offering within HP Cloud Service Enablement portfolio for Communications Service Providers that enables Service Providers to launch their new services rapidly and expand easily.

HP CloudSystem bursting through CloudAgile partners is expected to be available in the fourth quarter of the year. Other noted enhancements are available immediately.

More information about HP CloudSystem is available at www.hp.com/go/cloudsystem.

HP Delivers Cloud-based Security Services

, posted: 8-Jun-2011 16:43

Press release received during the HP Discover 2011:

HP Enterprise Services today launched new security services delivered through the cloud to help enterprises mitigate risk by reducing security vulnerabilities.

Security vulnerabilities are a constant threat that can compromise critical information and lead to loss of private, protected information. If a security breach occurs, the affected organisation may suffer damage to both its reputation and market value.

The new HP Enterprise Cloud Services help organisations mitigate risk against potential security vulnerabilities while lowering the financial commitment often required for security contracts. New services include:

- HP Enterprise Cloud Service - Vulnerability Scanning reduces the risk of data loss or unauthorised access by eliminating common security mistakes such as missing patches and incorrect software configurations. Offered on a predetermined schedule or an ad hoc basis, the service scans a client's network nodes - including servers and networking devices - for vulnerabilities. Once a vulnerability is identified, a notification is sent to the security administrator so corrective action can take
place.

- HP Enterprise Cloud Service - Vulnerability Intelligence provides information on newly discovered potential threats that have been identified by vendors or researchers since the last vulnerability scan took place. The service provides clients targeted recommendations on corrective actions specific to their IT environment to help avoid an outage or network loss. As a result, IT can prioritise needed changes and focus on rapid

With the flexibility of a cloud delivery model, the new security services help clients redirect capital and operations costs towards driving innovation for future growth. HP Enterprise Cloud Services help clients keep costs under control through flexible billing based
on the amount of resources consumed, instead of the fixed-cost systems that characterise most organisations' in-house operations.

?Today's enterprise technology environment has never been more vulnerable, due to the daily assault of sophisticated and malicious viruses, as well as other network intrusions,? said David Fox, Head of Enterprise Cloud Services, Enterprise Services, HP
South Pacific. ?HP provides security services to help businesses and governments recognise potential threats and take corrective actions before they can be negatively impacted.

Instant-On Enterprises use HP Security Services to protect resources while providing instant access to the right assets without compromising risk. HP Enterprise Cloud Service - Vulnerability Scanning and Enterprise Cloud Service - Vulnerability Intelligence are available immediately to clients worldwide.

HP Accelerates Cloud Adoption with $2 Billion in Financing for Cloud Projects

, posted: 8-Jun-2011 05:47

Press release received during the HP Discover 2011:

HP today announced it is making up to $2 billion available to help clients finance their way to the cloud.

This offering is made possible by HP Financial Services, the company's leasing and asset management subsidiary.

The move to cloud-based solutions represents a significant opportunity for organizations to begin their journeys to becoming Instant-On Enterprises that embed technology in everything they do to serve customers, employees, partners and citizens with whatever they need, instantly.

While many chief financial and information officers agree on the transformative power of cloud solutions, they are often challenged to align the investment budgets and return on investment goals associated with implementing them. HP Financial Services' financing solutions offer business enterprise executives the opportunity to build a financial architecture to match their technology roadmaps to the cloud.

In an Instant-On Enterprise, value is designed, built and delivered in the form of technology-enabled services. Many enterprises recognize there is not a singular model of delivery that can be optimized to meet all core service needs. Enterprises will continue to operate in environments containing traditional, outsourced and cloud services for the foreseeable future.

The evolutionary nature of this move and the ongoing transition it represents may require ongoing investments in technology expansion and upgrades. A financial architecture designed to support a solution deployment over the long term can provide customers with the flexibility to expand or even contract their technology footprint with ease and in the most fiscally prudent way.

The $2 billion of financing will be made available (based on local financing capabilities and practices) for qualified customers acquiring and deploying solutions from HP's Cloud solution portfolio. Subject to terms and availability, the financing solutions could be in the form of:

. Leases and other specialized financing solutions
. Sale and lease-back of existing IT infrastructure
. Deferred payment plans
. Low rates and flexible financing options

"In this hugely competitive global economy, having the financial flexibility to drive new projects is critical," said Irv Rothman, president and chief executive officer, HP Financial Services. "We are committed to helping our clients drive innovation and agility by transforming their legacy systems to advanced cloud solutions."
