Briefly: Livescribe 3, WordPress 3.7, GeoOp lists

  • Touch screens, keyboards and styli have their place, but when it comes to quick and efficient note-taking, it’s hard to beat an old-fashioned pen and paper. Which is why I like the look of the  Livescribe 3 Smartpen announced yesterday. I’ve used Livescribe pens for years, they’re great for journalists covering longer events. The new version works with iOS7 which limits the market, but an Android version is promised.
  • The weekend saw WordPress reach version 3.7. According to the company the new version features important architectural changes including automatic updates and a long overdue rework of the built-in search engine.
  • Microsoft says its cloud-based Hadoop distribution is now available on Azure.
  • GeoOp says it plans to list on the NZ Alternative Market (NZAX) this Thursday, October 31. Previously there was a private share offer that raised $10 million. No new shares will be available at listing. The company is run by CEO Leanne Graham who was previously Xero country manager. The company makes mobile phone job-costing and invoicing software for tradespeople.
  • Canterbury UFB local fibre company Enable Networks says it has connected the Rolleston and Lincoln to the fibre network. That’s a total of around 5,000 properties in two of the fastest growing towns in the country.
  • CommsDay reminds us of the other company planning a trans-Pacific submarine cable when it reports SubPartners plans to build sensor network overlay on Pacific Ocean cable.
