HI Corporation has announced the development of a 3D menu application that operates on mobile telephone terminals. By supplying menu screens in 3D, depth expressions unavailable in conventional menus and 360-degree free-space menu actions are enabled. The company says visual recognition improves dramatically, and enhances the user experience.
HI Corporation intends to provide the 3D menu application announced at this time as an extension to Mascot Capsule Engine, the company's 3D rendering engine adopted by the three major mobile carriers in Japan, and licensed to Motorola and Sony Ericsson. HI Corp. also plans to supply the 3D menu application as a user interface for various digital appliances equipped with LCD panels, such as digital camcorders and digital cameras.
Sharp will initially adopt the new 3D menu in Vodafone's V602SH mobile handset, which is ready for market release.
