Opera for Windows Mobile Pocket PC

Opera for Windows Mobile Pocket PC
Pocketcenter.de is showing some screenshots of Opera for Windows Mobile running on a Fujitsu Pocket Loox 720 Pocket PC with VGA high resolution screen.

Very nice, indeed... And everyone is talking about it, but do we need it?

I have downloaded the Opera for Windows Mobile Smartphone, and after using it for a while, I decided to stay with Pocket Internet Explorer. The standard browser is well integrated with the handset and it provides a One Column view that is perfect for the small screen. And it is free with the OS, unlike the Opera browser. Speed doesn't really count here, since the current series of Windows Mobile Smartphone devices are GPRS enabled only, which makes the network the big bottle neck, really.

But on my Pocket PC the story is different. There are high speed network options available (via 3G CDMA EV-DO, Wi-Fi, or upcoming 3G UMTS versions) and I am already using a third party browser, 167297 Access Netfront, which is not a free program. It offers many more features than the built-in Pocket Internet Explorer, including better Javascript support, Java (with JV-Lite2 JVM), and tabbed browsing.

So, on this platform I am more interested in seeing different options, and willing to pay for it. We don't know yet when this Opera Pocket PC version will be available, and if it will be free or not. But it is well worth having a look at it when it is here.
