Macromedia's Flash 6.0 for Pocket PC
Posted on 28-Mar-2003 03:41 | Filed under: News

Macromedia released the new Flash 6.0 for Pocket PC. In this version the user can execute Flash animation files directly from within this software, without the need of Pocket Internet Explorer.

With this version Macromedia also released a Software Development Kit. The Macromedia Flash Player 6 for Pocket PC 2002 Developer Kit contains three items:

The Macromedia Flash MX Content Development Kit for Pocket PC 2002 covers tips, techniques, and sample code for developing Flash content for the Pocket PC 2002 platform using the Macromedia Flash Player 6 for Pocket PC 2002. There are many new features available with the Macromedia Flash Player 6 for the Pocket PC as well as a Standalone Player for making projector files (EXE) for the PPC.

The Macromedia Flash MX Interface Development Kit for Pocket PC 2002 covers tips, techniques, and sample code for developing user interfaces for the Pocket PC 2002 platform. Because of the small screen size and the various input and connectivity options for Pocket PC 2002 (PPC) devices, designing an effective user interface lets users access your content easily. This document and included examples can help you understand how to create useable interfaces.

Components are pre-built movie clips which simplify handling common tasks or user interface (UI) elements. Because of the small screen size and slower processors for the Pocket PC the following five Flash UI components: CheckBox, ComboBox, ListBox, RadioButton, and ScrollBar have been optimized for Pocket PC 2002. You can use these components separately to add simple user interaction to Flash movies, or together to create a complete user interface for Web forms or applications.

The SDK can be downloaded from this page and the runtime is available here.
