Just received our latest Sky bill via email and the subject line ended in Important Pricing Information Enclosed

But there was nothing special in the email or the attached bill.

Anyone know whats up? Are they increasing the price YET AGAIN?

Or, did they just stuff up on the subject line?

Maybe they were planning to increase the price and then decided against it???

Either way - Glad I just cancelled Sky :)

CWC is over, we dont watch much either, although annoying F1 coverage is so much more now. Recording is great, and I hate Freeview EPG's. So the 99-74 I pay is basically to Record, Pause, F1. I'll get used to the Panny HD/BR Recorder with Freeview, and look at cancelling. Hasve to qwatch everyhting thats stored first!

Yeah, getting to the stage that we're going to take a damn good look at it and see if we need it. There is better can get better value to be had elsewhere, so if the price did go up then we're off.

At the beginning of what must be the most competitive time in recent memory for peoples entertainment dollar (and time), surely even sky execs wouldn't be so stupid as to put the price up

I don't follow this. Everyone puts prices up. Wages go up, its normal. And no one has said Sky are putting prices up, one poster mentioned it as if it is going to happen. Given the competition building up, I'd suggest the prices will stay untouched this year, content will increase at no extra cost, in order to reduce churn. They will no doubt decide on an acceptable effect to the reduction in sales, and aim for that. Just my opinion. I doubnt the churn will be anything more then very minimal in the short term, until internet based TV starts to become normal. I'd give that two years

I'll Donate $50 to a charity if prices don't drop or they don't significantly improve value (by adding either premium channels to the base offering or running a subscriber special) within 12 months. 

I am trying to decide if I cancel now or after the RWC. If I cancel now I'll miss the Super15 and as a big Rugby fan that has some value, in time to re-sign for the RWC (Though I imagine channels will be at a premium right before), or wait till after RWC and cancel then.

We want Sky, but the $48 a month special is good value and the $120 a month we pay now is not good value.

I'd be happy if they kept the channels/pricing they have now, and just stopped interrupting the programming with a wall of ads/promos every 8 minutes.

@networkn - I'm in a similar position, but it's the end of the new series of GoT rather than the RWC that will probably dictate when I cancel.

Unbroken sub since 1996, but not only do they treat long-time existing customers like something they scraped off their shoe, we get none of the offers extended to new joiners. Personally, I've had enough.

Will wire things up this weekend so I can pipe Netflix/Lightbox to the main TV, test them out, and if they are good enough for my needs then Sky goes bye-bye.

This is pretty much where I'm at. Got Lightbox and Netflix on the TV. Quality is great for both with pluses and few minuses for each.  Kids and wife are happy with both of those. Sky's use has pretty much dropped apart from Sport. Its just not enough to keep us at the price.

I dislike some of these contracts I have started to see come in with some ISP's, which offer 6 months of a service at half price, but there is a minimum of a 12 or 24 month contract, with a $200 break fee. I think if you offer a discounted price, that it should extend the minimum contract term.

Your getting a discount. You can choose that or not.

On a related note, the past issues were no competition. If we are talking RSP's or media providers, there is PLENTY of competition. The market is open you can choose who to use, that's competition. Or do users want a race to the bottom?

You are wanting a 2 year 50% discount. Thats the bottom line. I feel that is quite unreasonable, even Briscoes don't do that. If Sky or an RSP did that, that would severely hurt revenue. These deals of a discount for say 6 months do not create churn, they discourage it, as you are locked in for 2 years, and for that you get a half price discount for 6 months. 12.5% discount for 24 months sounds pretty good and sounds reasonable. Businesses are not charities, and if you check the financials you will see that RSPs and media providers like Sky are not cash cows. Let them compete, the pricing and services will level to what the market (us) will support.
