Meanwhile fox sports Aus have been advertising 4k Bathurst...wonder when the F1 will do that.

I thought Sky UK already played F1 out in 4K on the Sky Q 2TB box. HDR (HLG) is coming in 2019.

Anyone heard anything about where this is going?  Still a little bit of this season left but it would be good to know so I can firm up my plans fully.

Despite the claim that Sky was going to announce something over Bathurst weekend there has been no further news.

Sky did say that, at its AGM, that F1 has 50% more viewership than the English Premier League - which is quite frankly, sod all.  To be fair if all 4.5m people in NZ are the viewership pool and F1 rates at 0.37% then that'd be 16,650 people that watch F1.   So not surprising that the reaction to Sky losing the rights would be muted.

But Sky did mention EPL (which it hasnt had for years but does carry for BeIN), Heinken Champions Cup (which I think Spark just got?) and F1 all in the same sentence.  So I figure thats almost tacit acceptance to confirming that the rights are gone - or going.

Sort of related, I forgot to record MotoGP. So as I've paid for the content I feel ok looking elsewhere. No go. PB, KA are a no go. So I imagine Linux ISO sources will become tougher. And it might well be subs galore. I'll check Sky OD but not likely.

Tis a shame.  Only highlights over the next week before Sunday's next round - and highlights on SkyGo/OnDemand.  I recall its not your first miss either.  I find the series record on the Guide App to be most useful, just a suggestion.

Looks like F1TV is likely to be nixxed in NZ next year.  Spark has got the Formula 1 rights.

Oh, ok... Hopefully its the Sky F1 feed from the UK and not the Liberty Media feeds.  What platform are they using it through, lightbox or a dedicated sport platform.... and most importantly will it have Android TV support as casting from your phone is just dumb in my opinion.

When LM took over, there were murmurings on the F1 coverage that SkyF1 may not have all of the remaining races. While that didnt happen, LM is a media company, you'd expect them to take over, keep all the cash.

What is LM's coverage like? Who are the commentators? I do see Sky F1 promoting extra features on the app, it seemed as though they were working together

I don't know, but given their American style approach I'd be worried!  I'm English and grew up with Brundle, Herbert, Hill etc. and so I like that conversational style... Its like EPL distributed content vs Sky UK EPL; I prefer Skys due to the pundits rather than the bland EPL which BEin distributes.

I get that. For me, commentators are a huge part of the experience. The info, the detail, the opinion, the fun, its great. I don't want all out, loud, hypefest commentary. Its a "show" but its also a sport, leave Hollywood at home

Just received:

Spark announced today it has won three-year exclusive rights to the Formula 1 World Championship, Formula 2 Championship, GP3 Series and the 2019 Porsche Super Cup Series, commencing with the Australian Grand Prix in March 2019. The races will be broadcast over its new sports streaming service, which will launch early next year.

Collectively, the Formula 1 package involves 21 races per calendar year and includes all official practice sessions and qualifying rounds. Subscribers will also have access to some of the greatest Formula 1 races from the past.

Head of Sport, Jeff Latch, said Spark was excited to add Formula 1 and its associated competitions to Spark’s sports line-up. He says Formula 1 has a substantial and passionate following in New Zealand. Latch also says Formula 1 is ideally suited to being broadcast on a modern streaming platform, like the one Spark will offer, for a New Zealand audience.

“Motorsport fans will be able to watch all the Formula 1 races from March next year, either live, or at a more civilised hour on demand – whichever they prefer. They will also be able to watch on a range of devices, for example on a tablet during a train or bus ride to work.

“Our streaming service will fit around you, rather than requiring you to schedule your life around when a particular sports event is being shown.”

Michaella Snoeck, Senior Manager, Media Rights at Formula 1, said “Formula 1 are delighted to be entering into a new partnership with Spark in New Zealand for the next three seasons, providing New Zealanders with unprecedented coverage in the territory. Our focus is to provide fans with greater accessibility to coverage across all devices, which the Spark sport’s platform will provide.”

The Formula 1 and associated competitions are in addition to the rugby and football content already announced by Spark, including the Rugby World Cup 2019 and the Premier League from August 2019.  Latch says more content rights would be announced in coming weeks.
