Hello!

I hope this is the right forum for this...

Today I got a Vodafone 715, which seems to be quite nice. The phone has the option to send e-mails, so I configured
a mail server that I have somewhere (POP and SMTP), wrote a small test message and pressed 'send'.

Sadly, I am getting an error message: "Invalid recipient address". The address, however, is definitely correct. Also, the
connection to the server itself seems to work, because earlier I had given a wrong password and I got an authentication
error. A different message this time, after authentication had passed, so really, it seems to be the server. Yet, when I
send messages from my normal (PC based) mail client, they work just fine. It's just when I send them from the mobile
phone that it complains about the inavlid recipient address.

Does anyone know what could cause that, or has anyone experienced the same thing?

I'm a Vodafone pre-pay customer, in case that should make a difference.

Out going server should be smtp2.vodafone.net.nz also make sure your reply to address field is correct.

The problem for me now is that in order to receive e-mail from my own e-mail account, I need to use authentication (username and password). Of course, this is different than what I'd need to specify for the Vodafone SMTP server. In fact, to send e-mail, I shouldn't use authentication at all.

But  in the 'account' I create in the phone settings, where I specify my own POP server, but Vodafone's SMTP server, I can only say 'Use authentication' for both of them together. This means that once I enable authentication to be able to receive messages, it will now also attempt to use authentication for the Vodafone SMTP server. But for that one, I don't seem to have a username and password. Is there a default username and password I should specify for that one?

If possible, I would like to avoid having to go into my account settings and change the authentication setting every time I want to read or write e-mail.

Note that you will be paying casual data rates on prepay which will be an absurd amount of money, until 28th July, when the new $1 / 10 MB / day plan kicks in for prepay.

Thanks for the warning, Mauricio. Yes, I noticed that already: Doing an occasional balance check inbetween fiddling with e-mail makes for a rather eye popping experience! Smile

I assume that the new rates from July onwards mean that I don't pay any data rate per day if I don't use it, but if I do e-mail/web-browsing/etc. then on that day there will be a $1 charge, which covers up to 10 MB in volume, right? That's how I understood it.

Ok, I don't want this to go too far off the original question: Is there a default username/password I can use for the Vodafone SMTP server, so that I don't have to switch authentication on/off everytime I want to receive/send e-mail?

I can't seem to pair my 715.  Any tricks to get them to play nice?  The phone says it's paired, but my HP Pavilion stays busy for half a minute and then says pairing failed.
The manual says something about software, but there was no CD with the phone (bought new).
