Tethering - iphone (or other) - anyone done it?
Does anyone know if you can tether an iphone 3g to a macbook for internet browsing in NZ?
If so, how is it done?
Why not google your question and see what comes back
I did that, but couldn't find an answer, which is why I thought I'd ask here. Should I not have asked the question?
I found various US solutions, and software packages that were available, but have since been pulled. So that doesn't really answer my question.
I wanted to know if anyone in NZ, on Vodafone, with a Macbook, has done it themselves, and could offer me guidance.
There's still no officially sanctioned way to tether your iphone. (You are at the Mercy of Jobs)
(ie, nothing you can download from the iStore)
However, if you're willing to JailBreak your iphone, there are plenty of apps out there that will do it.
Thanks for your helpful reply :)
re: jailbreak phone - would be interested to hear if anyone has successfully done this in NZ.
You can do it. Don't expect it to be very quick though.
You need to jailbreak the phone (
), then install PDANet from Cydia which the jailbreak puts on the phone. Getting it going is pretty easy.
Apple will probably eventually add the functionality, but probably not on the current version of the phone as it's a bit underpowered, and it'd be a good selling point for a new model.
Many thanks, Steve. I'll take a look.
