I'm looking for a new phone at the moment and it narrowed down to two phones.
Either wait for iphone 4g to be released in NZ
or get HTC desire now.

I haven't used iphone nor android before(although I have ipod touch) and I'd like to try something new(i.e. android) but what drag me down is that I haven't used or seen any actual android(not from internet),
I dont know whether desire is worth $1000. Although many people on the net(and on geekzone) comment desire as a great phone.

So if you have desire, are you satisfied with your new phone?

Or if you are in same situation like me, please share your opinion.

Thanks

If you're an apple fan, just buy the iphone ;)

I think there are several android emulators/virtual machines (Usually with the SDKs), so you could grab the SDK and have a play with that.

(Although keep in mind the HTC desire has HTC's Sense UI, which seems to be pretty awesome)

I wouldn't count the emulator as part of my research prior to purchasing the Android. I have played around with Eclipse and the SDK and it's nothing like holding a phone in your hand. My decision to go with the Android was made easier by Apple's recent craziness, including the overzealous conditions imposed upon developers. All-in-all I have been extremely happy with my HTC Desire in the 4 days I have used it.

Thank you for the reply ;)
I'm also interested in developing apps for mobile in the near future(I'm only 2nd year programming student), so the phone I'm purchasing now is likely to be the platform that I'll be developing..

If you're even asking yourself the question then I think you should wait until the new iPhone is announced and see how it stacks up...

Speaking for myself I'm enjoying my Desire immensely, as are most.

Check out the stickied thread that links to reviews for the Desire at XDA-developers Desire forum for more info to mull over. Most reviewers believe it surpasses the current iPhone, but who knows what this years iteration holds...

I suggest waiting until we know more about the next iPhone - details will be announced at WWDC on June 7th, with likely NZ date in July.

The most interesting feature is that front facing camera and exactly what video chat services it will support.

Most interesting feature by far is the rumoured screen resolution!

The front facing camera may not, in fact, be a camera at all according to Giz.

to me, large number of contents in apple store appeals to be, but more and more apps are developed for android as well, so...um I really dont know which one to get!
As stated in the reply, WWDC is only a month away, so I'd better wait for that.
Even if I do not like new iphone at that time, there's possibility that desire price goes down to compete with iphone 4g.

If you wait for new tech, you'll be waiting forever ;)

Thats true, but waiting a month and seeing what the next iPhone is like is quite reasonable. If he starts prevaricating then, and looking for new upcoming handsets then we know he's just into playing the waiting game... :)

I'm an android fan (typing this on my nexus one), but I still have to say "it depends".

If you are interested in Android for technical or licensing reasons (and to be honest there's probably not much in it) then you wont be disappointed with any of the latest "superphones". If you're looking to make a living off mobile development then Apple probably has the edge, simply because of market share (others might argue that Android fragmentation is another reason to go Apple, I can't comment much on this).

They are both great platforms that are changing the world, and neither one is going to disappear any time soon.

Pick your crowd ;)
