I have been having trouble with broadband speeds since last thursday on my bigtime plan.
Telecom says it because I am on Bigtime on a shared connection..

So I thought ok, I'll try Caspa out on my Tivo box as that isn't supposed to be affected by bigtime shaping speeds.

Well just getting up the Caspa Menus is taking ages with a lot of pauses without even trying to download from there.
I thought I read on here that Tivo/Caspa was full speed no matter what telecom plan you are on ??

Anyone else here tried Caspa on Bigtime..

That is strange. I was under the impression that the TiVo traffic is not subject to bandwidth or shaping restrictions. Mind you, from what I have heard about BigTime then I am not really shocked by your post.

Is your TiVo hard-wired or wireless?

Is there a chance you could move to a 'real' plan?

the tivo is hard wired into a 100mb switching hub.
I was surprised myself but then again my speeds to telecoms speedtest are down to 60kbps at night..
like I said my connection has benn stuffed since last thursday ....
i'm doing the 3 days of tests right now.

Are your speed ok during the day?

Have you tried connecting your network with no other devices (phone, fax, alarms, Sky) on the phone line to make sure there isn't any interference?

Are you using filters in correct places?

I specifically asked in the Telecom shop if on-demand services would be affected if my broadband speed was reduced to dial up speeds after going over my cap. They said it wouldn't but I did notice that their answer was preceded by a long "ummm" which is the international sound for "I don't know but I will say what you want to hear"

I got TiVo 3 days before my Adventure plan ended and was on dial up speed. I never got any on demand items to download enough to start buffered play.

when I did the block of speedtests this morning at 6am before going to work, everything was going full speed, xtreme it said, it was the same yesterday morning. it started dying after 9am and gradually got slower during the day down to dialup speeds at nightime.
yes everything is in place, nothing has changed hardware wise my end.
it was connected on adsl2+ at 9850 down 960 up in my router this morning when I checked...
all this started happening last thursday, my connection was fine before then..

when I do their speedtests, everythig else is disconnected and just the computer doing the test is in the ethernet port of the router..

Since I got the Tivo box its been turned off waiting to go back.. :-)

Just did a speedtest.
Router says I'm connected at 9390Kbps down and 944 kbps up
speedtest says 74.6kbps down and 9.1 kbps up right now..
It was 8128.7kbps down and 996.2 kbps at 6.15am this morning..

Hmm you could have splitter issues - they do crap out over time so that could be coincidental - I'm on big time and my connection and CASPA is going like a bat out of hell...

Thanks, good suggestion but If it was my wiring it would be slow all the time ?
Its fine before 9am, I can d/l at 800kbps and over 1meg in speed sometimes.

Cool, Thats great to see it works properly when your connection is ok..
And yeah Caspa goes great in the mornings when I'm going at full speed.
I tried it out on sunday morning before 9am and it was fine.
Hopefully telecom can sort out my speed issues from the tests so i can enjoy Caspa :-)

and the Tivo box is great, clearer than MySky, I haven't turned on the MySky box since I've had it..

Thought I should just clear it up so there's no speculation, the tivo content is first of all completely unmetered and second it has zero shaping regardless of your plan (Big Time included), the traffic you pull down from the content delivery network does not go near the device we use for managing Big Time traffic.

Cool, thanks for the clarification on that, we were all wondering about that..

My connection seems to be fixed and back up to full speed as of this afternoon :-)
and Caspa is loading up ok now..
I suppose if you are having problems speedwise even just getting to telecoms speedtest then nothing is going to work properly :-(

Hi,  My big time plan as also been slow as, if not worse than Go Large used to be, for the last few days.  Up untill the middle of last week it was fine with no problems but now, it is just rubbish.  Tried to complain to Telecom about it but gave up after being on hold for ten minutes.  I am in New Plymouth and I was in Takapuna over the week end and my mate's Big time is just as slow as mine.  We both had good speeds up till now!
