BraaiGuy: Any plans to add Wheedle?

I'm guessing Wheedle don't have an API and won't for a while, making this non-trivial.

Also it would need to be done as a seperate site I believe (unless you can get trademe to agree to it) The Trademe API ToS say:

You may not combine Trade Me content with content from other online marketplaces without our express permission.

Oh dear. I forgot about that, it makes things trickier.

I usually put my first bid on at 2 mins till close, that way it doesnt push the time out at all so hopefully increases the chance of other interested people getting logged in on their computer/phone too late, compared to if I pushed it out another 2 mins by bidding in the last seconds.

Yep -- I think that's probably the best strategy. This is BidBud's default strategy, but you can get it to do slower bids by setting its bid strategy to slow, in which case it'll wait to within the last minute before it bids.

If that happens, then everyone has the same protection from shill bidding and not having to be around a computer or phone when the auction ends. Also, if you disable notifications when you're outbid (this is an option that'll be available soon), then you commit yourself only to the amount you decide you want to pay from the beginning. Yes, you can do this with Trademe too but as I mentioned, it opens you up to shill bidding, plus everyone can see your bid and because you want it, they want it too. There's an interesting article and paper about that here
A lot of people have asked, what happens if two people bid on the same auction using BidBud? The answer is, the same thing that happens if two people bid on an auction using Trademe -- the highest bidder wins.

This situation isn't handled very well currently and will be improved shortly.

Because your site allows creating bids in people's Trademe accounts which would be very bad if someone compromised another person's account, have you considered 2factor authentication like Google Authenticator (free) and/or Yubikeys (free to you, $25 hardware token for users)? I'll assume your database is nice and secure :)

(Tangent: I see you're also using Piwik for analytics - do you have problems with it slowing to an absolute crawl when displaying periods greater than one day in the reporting panel? I've been trying to fix this for two releases on my install and I'm wondering if the only solution will be to move it to my other server).

Two factor authentication isn't something I've been considering as yet -- the database is nice and secure, and the passwords are not only encrypted, they're salted too... how so many people get this wrong I don't know.
It's a possibility for inclusion in the future though, depending on demand.
As for Piwik, I haven't had any problems as yet but it's only been running a short time so there's only a week or so of data there.

Very useful to those in business. analysing what others are selling is very important.
Price points, how long they have been holding that stock etc.

I love your site bidbud I think its great and very useful.

I only just came across this thread recently have not had a chance to read all the responses have been to the site haven't had a real play but Intend to

when i lived in wlg i was a reasonable size player with trade me and had quite a bit of ineteraction with them at functions etc I mention this only for the reason that I am surprised Trade me are letting you do this site? I know it doesn't go against there tos but they usually manage to kill sites like this pretty quick I often asked them why they didn't like third party when eBay had 1000s's never got an answer
I really hope that they don't manage to stop you I guess its not so aggressive now Mr Sam isn't there
Anyway just thought I would say good luck

And if you really want to do some good come up with a gizmo/app that alerts my phone and allows me to bid I know your work will resolve that issue to a point but the app would be helpful to

I could make an app or something so that you get an alert if you're outbid... (I think that's what you mean?), but really you shouldn't just update your bid because someone bid more -- you should choose your bid and stick to it. I still get a number of people coming onto BidBud when an auction is closing and furiously updating their bid... which kind of defeats the purpose!
In my opinion, BidBud doesn't resolve it to a point, it resolves it -- I've won a number of auctions while doing something else and I've also lost a few too. The main thing was I never paid more than I wanted to.

As for TM allowing BidBud, well I'm being careful to remain within their T&C so they shouldn't have a problem with it.

I'm glad you like the site anyway -- most people do once they've tried it, it's just getting them to try it in the first place!
