Hi all,


First up, who here is using a Sony Xperia device on Skinny? Which model? Do you have issues with signal or drop outs?


I've seen two devices, an Xperia Z3 Compact, and an Xperia Z5 Compact both which are supplied by spark. Both have been used with Spark sim cards in the past, without fail. Both are fully updated.


However when you swap these devices to skinny, you suddenly get odd behaviour. Dropping of signal entirely, especially when there's no open data session or voice call active. This means making or receiving a call is like rolling the dice as to whether it will connect. Because there's no open data session, it's worse when on WiFi. It's mostly fine if you're on mobile data, but this is hardly ideal.


It can be observed on the device as showing full signal, and then none, with the blank bars and no service showing on androids status. Signal goes from say, -70 RSSI to No Signal. And then it'll reconnect to the network, and repeat.


Each device is more than a generation apart, and each is used at either end of the country from eachother, but both have the same problem. The sim card has been used in a motorola and LG phone respectively with no issues. So i'm wondering, if there's commonality between basebands of these devices (slim chance), perhaps there's an incompatibility problem with the baseband? Just a theory at least.

Ive been using a Spark supplied Z5 Compact on Skinny for some time now and have had no issues, I do tend to use it more locked to 3G vs 4G but always find data and calling happens ok.

Have a Z2 (which was originally from/on Vodafone) that had a similar issue when I moved to 2degrees for a short period of time.  It would randomly lose data connection, but show full 'signal', until the phone was restarted.  Shifted to Skinny Direct and it's been rock solid since.

Could this be an APN issue?  I had a similar issue when I used Warehouse Mobile.  I had to create a Warehouse Mobile APN instead of using the default 2Degrees APN that came on the sim.  Just my 2 cents, hope you find a solution :)

I don't think it's specifically data/apn related though, the signal drops entirely and texts/calls don't work. Having a data session actually helps, as it generally stops it from dropping. It's an idle cellular connection that cuts out.

I have a Xperia XZ model working perfectly fine on Skinny, no issues.
