Bunnings sell this clear tarp which is fairly durable. I recently used it to cover my gazebo and it does let fair amount of light in and keeps the rain out.

Excellent! This was the suggestion I hoped for. Going to give this a try. Cheers.
it wont be the best for a green house IMO.
Plastic has several issues:
1 - Breaks down unless heavily UV stabilised.
2 - Doesn;t let through the same light. we got our glass house replaced by a commercial plastic glass house. It is some type of poly carbonate or something. The light coming through has changed and plants dont grow as well.
3 - fumes - affects some insects adversely which affects pollination.
If I had the money I'ld go back to glass.
