Technofreak:

I must admit I don't have any experience with non agitator models, but we definitely don't see any unusual wear and tear on the clothes with our top loader F & P agitator model. I know in my case I get very good life out of my clothes. Our washing machine is well over 10 years old.

I wonder why our experiences are so different?

I've had an F&P top-loader model MW512, had it for about 12 years. The only repair I've had done is getting the control panel replaced (apparently it got fried somehow). I've never noticed any problems with clothes being ripped or damaged. I've been forced to use front-loaders when on holiday in the UK and I must say that I prefer top-loaders.

Lots of older folks don't like front loaders as they have to bend and reach.

You can either build or purchase a stand that would raise them up by about 30cm off the ground which would make a huge difference to them.

Yep, this bending problem is the reason my inlaws won't get a front loader, but great idea re stand.

A quick search shows some are available, such as this one from HN, but I wonder if they'd still sell it as an essential item?

Edit: Just realised that's the Aus site; doesn't seem like it's sold here. Looks like Bosch sells one, but not cheap at $419: https://www.kitchenthings.co.nz/bosch-wmz20490-universal-platform/

That's the sort of thing. The ones I saw had been custom made when they'd redone their laundry. Some one handy could probably knock one up for 1/2 that price

A plinth with a drawer is one of the isolation projects. They are a few examples on YT for inspiration. You may as well line up all the things that could be kept in the drawer and make it deep enough to be useful.

Went through this exercise for our apartment (laundry in cupboard situation) and landed on IIRC 60cm as an ideal height, ergonomically.  Allowed a reasonable internal drawer height for various cleaning products.
