kobiak:

@mike any feedback on the heat pumps? thanks

@deadlyllama have you end up using kogan heat pumps?

Ordered a gazillion Panasonic hi-wall units but then they delayed and delayed so ordered a gazillion Hitachi hi-wall units which have arrived and will hopefully be installed next week.

Still tempted to get a cheapie heatpump for the caravan awning but might see what the local installers will sell me first.

if you want a 2nd hand fujitsu, we just had one removed that was going to be binned. A few years old but was working fine when removed, free if you can pick it up

I could be keen if nobody else wants it, depending on the size/model. I’m in Lower Hutt too

Why are you getting rid of it if it's only a few years old?

We've had three Kogan heat pumps running for a couple of months now (2x 2.6kW and 1x 7kW).

They work great and excellent value. No complaints. Highly recommended.

Only thing that hasn't met expectations is the app... it's fine for controlling but schedules are limited to on/off... ie. no ability to turn on heat at 20° when temp drops below 15°... means I'm still mostly turning them on and off manually rather than having them automated.

We've just bought an old house in Wellington.  Rubbish to nonexistent insulation, no heating.

But - we may have to move in three and a half years so we don't want to spend heaps on it.  We've already had to fix some of the previous owner's shoddy renovations, and we haven't insulated it yet.  Yes, previously a rental with noncompliant insulation :P

Kogan do suspiciously cheap heat pumps - $1200 including shipping for an 8kW unit, $530 for a 2.7kW.  Has anyone got experience with them?  And who in Wellington would install a random heat pump you've bought off the internet?

I have daikin, Toshiba and fujitsu heat pumps that we use every day for at least 6hrs some more.

In an uninsulated house in deep south.

For the last 10-15 years.

Just works.

How long do you think the kogan one will last?

Kickinbac:
akmodi: I would be careful of heatpump that a COP rating of less than 4 or similar SEER ratings.

Best units can deliver upto 6 or 7.

Thanks

COP of 6 or 7 is dreaming! Most don’t get above 4. Anything near 4.5 is really good.

All of mine are above 6

Error.

@Batman: I’d be interested to see this in the specs of your specific models - any chance you can post these to demonstrate they all have a COP above 6?

As a concrete example, here are the figures of a current Daikin range - you’ll see the highest is 4.85, with the lowest 3.3 (my understanding is the COP tends to be lower for larger units, which is reflected here):
