shaopu: any other suggestions?? jordi

If it is your first cut since you moved in? maybe it has not been mowed low for a while, if ever.

Do one cut high, then another low (a couple of days later). Then cut as often as needed to maintain the low cut easily. This is the best time of year for thick growth - warm weather and regular rain.

If the ground is bumpy then cutting low may be difficult anyway if the blade bottoms out on the ground frequently. The previous owner may have compromised with that problem and chosen a higher regular mow.

Also depends on the type of grass and ground coverage, and some people dislike any kind of bald patches, some it is not a priority.
