Anyone had any luck with Visa travel cards like this?

I'm getting an Apple TV to use at my new place and have been looking at getting Netflix and Hulu setup for it, however I'm running into a few issues with credit cards.

When setting up with Netflix you need to enter a zip code however when I try all the tricks of adding numbers to the end etc, I still can't make a valid zip code from my postcode, so then I try and sign up with EntroPay, I've created an account however when I try both my BNZ Visa debt and My BNZ Mastercard it tells me that EntroPay doesn't support my country or territory.

Does EntroPay not work for just me from NZ?

Does anybody know of another way to get a Netflix and Hulu account?

Hi there,

I too INITIALLY had problems setting up Entropay, but a lady on their customer service team said she herself was using Entropay to pay for Netflix and she lives outside the USA - so I kept trying.

My mistake was thinking that I needed to setup an Entropay card as if I was living in the USA. So I found a residential address in Oregon (no sales tax) and the associated zip code.

Bad mistake as Entropay can tell you are trying to setup a US domiciled card when you are on a NZ IP address and they then ask you to scan your passport and proof of residential address - well duh of course they don't match.

So back to my lady at Customer Service who said, no you don't need to do any of that as Entropay credit cards have no address verfication built into them so Netflix can't perform this function.

So all you need to do is setup a US$ Entropay account with your NZ address, passport etc and fund it from a NZ credit card.

To Netflix this is seen as a US$ credit card, but they must know from the bank number on the card (first 4 or 6 digits) that the bank is not in the US (Entropay is in Malta) but for whatever reason they ignore that. So for now Netflix certainly works with Entropay.

The other thing is, if your NZ credit card is being rejected by Entropay, give your NZ card issuer a call and tell them that the transaction you are trying to make is legit and can they please unlock it. Some card companies automatically suspend what they see as suspicous activity on a card (for your own protection they will say).

First six digits, at least for Mastercard. But I believe it's just the home currency they look at in retrospect, rather than the BIN. So Payoneer might work then.

Unless your card issuer is Westpac. In which case every single time you try and load your Entropay account, it will decline and Westpac will call you to force the (single) payment through - they won't add a permanent exception. I stopped using Entropay because of this.

I could not use mine when I tried just before Xmas.

I had to go the Entropay route (where my BNZ card was acccepted).

Interesting others have been able to use their Air NZ OneSmart card as that is just a BNZ debit card in drag.

My netflix account was linked to my BNZ visa around Dec 2011 which Netflix accepted without any issues. Credit card expired and when I went to update my account with the replacement card last week, it wouldn't accept it anymore.I then tried using my ASB visa but ran into same issue.

I tried using my paypal linked to my BNZ visa but still no luck. I then created a US paypal account and linked it to my ASB visa. Netflix accepted this!

They seem to be getting more stringent so not sure how long this will work. My credit card will last until 2016 so that should give me plenty of time of trouble free watching :)

P.S - I didn't use a vpn to create my US paypal account.

That is interesting that a US Paypal account accepted a NZ based credit card. Did you use a fake US residential address with a zip code that included your NZ zip code embedded in your NZ credit card?

The address used to be a valid MyUS.com that I no longer subscribe to i.e the monthly subscription has been cancelled. The zip code used is a valid US zip.

ok i just joined Netflix today with there 1 month free deal and using the Hola chrome add-on. i just used my Kiwibank visa debit card and picked a random US post code and i was in and my account works fine. It kept asking me for my address for dvd 's but i just ignored it and i must admit it's a great service and may even keep it because it's cheaper than Sky movies

Common sense is not as common as you think.

An update on my experiences, a bit delayed due to moving house etc

signing up to netflex and hulu plus with a bnz visa debit seems to be a no go these days, I talked to many people at BNZ and they all read the same script, that they don't support netflex and to use paypal

I went to Westpac and signed up for their visa debt account.

once I moved and had the account setup I signed up to unblockus, netflex and hulu plus all fine with this card.

so my recommendation is if your having trouble with credit card sign ups is to get a westpac account

It's been years since I opened a US bank account but don't they require a social security number for tax purposes?

Plus how would that help? You need a US credit card, not a bank account.

Thats interesting to know that you managed to sign up to hulu plus with a Westpac NZ debit card, i was told it HAS to be a US credit card, so glad im with westpac now. Guess i can start the sign up process then. Thanks for the info.
