Hi sultanoswing

If you put a dynamic DNS domain into to zone editor it should stay as the dynamic DNS not as the IP, the exception to this would be if you had that zone set to automatically update upon login or used the update API these will over-right the dynamic DNS with your current IP address.

I do like the idea of showing the IP address as well, i think i will put in the next up date a pop-over so when you mouse over a dynamic DNS you can see the real IP associated to the dynamic DNS.

URGENT:
As of 4:38pm September 6th 2014, all listed DNS servers are not responding to DNS requests. Pinging the servers is still successful.

I've had to fallback to Google DNS.

Thanks - I'm not quite sure I've got my settings correct, or that I'm understanding exactly how the DDNS feature works.

I have disabled the "automatically update this zone" (i.e. it is showing in the blue drop down box).

I have entered my DDNS address into the IP/Dynamic DNS box as (an example, using this format) "http://myname.mydns.org"

Saving changes - now the DDNS remains in the IP/Dynamic DNS box. Great.

But, when I sign out and sign back in, I get "Your current IP address (123.45.67.89) was not found in your zones please pick a zone to assign it to:" in a lovely pink coloured box.

Do I need to do anything - or is this expected behaviour if the Dynamic DNS poller is working properly? If I click the blue "update" box at this point, then the IP address  again takes over the domain name under "Zones".

Hopefully what I am trying to describe verbally makes sense - it's possibly a logic failure in my brain ;)

Good reason #147 why to use a modified hosts file, and your own ISPs DNS ;)

Hi sultanoswing,

You must enter the DDNS address in the IP/Dynamic DNS box using the following format (without the "http://") "myname.mydns.org"

Save the changes then wait a couple of minutes for the change to go through, I think Jason said it updates roughly every 5 minutes.

Thats correct, but it looks like a patch we applied on Friday broke the dynamic dns system which is probably why you see the "Your current IP address (123.45.67.89) was not found in your zones please pick a zone to assign it to" message, and this now has caused an even bigger issue with our dns servers, i have removed all custom overrides from the DNS servers so normal web access should now resume and am checking the config files now.

USA and AU servers are still not responding to DNS queries.

I have swapped to NZ and DE servers for now.

So custom domains are disabled then?
Is there an eta until restoration?

I have found the issue, the patch we made on Friday broke the Zone IP validation and someone put an invalid IP in one of there zones causing the DNS configs to not validate correctly.
We have fixed the bug, removed the invalid IP and reloaded all the configs so everything should be operational now including custom domains.

like finding a needle in a haystack 1 IP in over 4000, I apologise for any inconvenience if there is anything that's not working still please let me know.

That's why they call it a beta - lots of good learning for us all, eh? cool

I'll try the DDNS thing now....

[EDIT: All working fine now! Guess it was bad luck to try it just before, at the same time as a general outage]

hi

Any suggestions please....have snap fibre with Fritz box running roku 3 with DNS4me, typically once a week or so when trying to connect to netflix get the error message saying that sorry netflix currentlly isn't available in your region.  Has just happened when switching between episodes of programme on netflix.  I've powered down and reset fritz box and roku 3 but still get the same error message.  If there a quick fix or check that can be done to restore services.

Is your IP address being updated? If so, this will result in the type of behaviour you describe.

Resetting the Fritz box won't help in this case, as it will get a new dynamic IP address from your ISP each time you reset your internet connection, resulting, of course, in the same error message.

To check & update, login to your dns4me user console, and go to "IP Access Zones". You can use a couple of methods to autoupdate your IP address, or at least make it a quick 1-step process.

Occassionaly my Roku 3 seems to need a reset for a similar reason - but *just* unplugging the Roku, not the whole kit & caboodle, should work for you.
