I was curious as to what sky can actually achieve.

They are suing a limited liability company with no cash.

Maybe they can force it to shutdown, only for another company to popup selling the same box.

Somehow the company director needs to face criminal charges, sky are pursuing a civil case right?

It might be like whackamole, pointless ,but more costly.

Line in the sand.

Many here hate Sky, and on this topic many support Sky. If we are to have an equilibrium, we start off sensible and work from there. IMHO

Or do you suggest we let off poor burglars?

I suggested nothing of the sort.

It is not the same as a 'burglary' as the crown would prosecute in front of a jury and prison is a distinct possibility.

Can you then explain how this court case will materially prevent this guy from registering another company for a few bucks and continue doing what he was doing? As I said, I'm curious as to what sky can achieve here.

I'm against Sky charging a subscription to provide content I have absolutely no interest in. Until they offer a solely PPV option, I won't be signing up again. The last time I had Sky was two decades ago. A couple of friends have it and when I've been at their places I've yet to see anything being broadcast that I have even the slightest interest in watching.

The people who were paying him couldn't have been too bright. They could have just bought their own illegal subscription.

I picked up on that being done by one of the other sellers on pg 1 from their Facebook images of the channels available being masked with 0s to hide source url.

Guess it comes with a promise of service to keep updated. When you check said Facebook pages there's many a 'contact me with a time to gain access and help'

In the other Skybox thread - he made Torrentfreak:

sailedpeep:

https://torrentfreak.com/tv-box-seller-emails-sky-tv-bosses-with-pirate-offer-gets-sued-for-1m-170804/

"In fact, a bulk email he sent out to 50,000 people advertising his product as “being better than Sky”, actually found the inboxes of 50 Sky TV staff and directors. He believes this triggered the legal action from the company."

What a muppet.

Something else I've noticed on "myboxnz.com" is the following blurb "My Box units are streaming devices which will work regardless of My Box being in business!!! My Box is STILL the only company in the world who has gone legal with cable TV giant Sky TV and WON!!!" - I really hope that Sky takes this guy down off his pedestal a few notches.

Someone needs to tag in the stuff and herald editors/reporters to these threads... I'm sure it will be very welcomed by those who are owed money etc.

The things we google up after getting telemarketing calls...

Home number just got a cold-call possibly selling these still. Number back checks to old yellow pages company listing Taura Marketing Ltd in CHC.

(Which appears struck off)

Possibly now replaced by Voice Solutions with the same managing director listed.

Which, you guessed it. Cold calls (and clearly doesn't adhere to the marketing NZ do-not-call list)

https://www.facebook.com/VoiceSolutions/

I didn't field the call myself but it was the 2nd attempt today. Trying to sell 'Fibre free tv' or similar (again, I didn't field it). Can't but help wonder if its one of the local ones employing telemarketers to try selling them rather than online tracking still

Closest one I could find was the one of the ones named in this suit. Which funny enough has all comments disabled. But is local to chc.
