Hi all

Sat down to watch The Great Wall on Netflix yesterday and got really frustrated that all the mandarin spoken parts were not translated on the screen as forced subtitles. The only way we could get the manadarin parts translated was with subtitles tuned ON and then we had subtitles for all english as well as mandarin !

Is this a common issue with Netflix, is there a workaround ? (buy the movie off google play/BD...etc is obvious)..

I have seen TV shows on Netflix where forced subtitles are shown but is this just an issue with movies ?

I've had this issue a number of times with iOS versions of Netflix...watching on the iPad is quite frustrating if there's a Johnny Foreigner speaking the native tongue.

Don't have this issue when watching via Smart TV or Apple TV, funnily enough.

I've had this on various versions of Netflix, I suspect the Android App and Xbox One though I can't remember specifically (but those are the methods I usually use to view Netflix). Bloody annoying.

This may provide some answers:

Netflix is in the wrong language

Why aren't subtitles available in my language?

or you could have an online chat or a voice chat with them and give them feed back.

i think its more to do with how Netflix stream the film rather than my settings

i would have thought that with my default settings as English where there are parts of a film or tv show where people or characters are speaking in a different language..say klingon ! then the forced subtitles would show on screen as default.

We had to watch the film with full English CC subtitles on to be able to understand the mandarin parts (which there was a lot of).

i have sent a query to netflix so lets see..
