There's no way I'd pay for Youtube Premium.  Almost all of the "content" is the hottest of hot garbage. Talking heads winding out their stupid videos for 10+ minutes so they can montise it.

You’re watching the wrong content! There are some amazingly talented creators who are producing exceptional content on YouTube. Sure, there’s plenty crap too but it’s easy to avoid by subscribing to the right channels.

The kids watch YT shows and Minecraft/Roblox etc streamers on the smart TV tied to my account so I'm happy to avoid exposing them to toy advertising haha.

I had to report the Advert's we're getting to our ITSec team if I'm using my work profile. We have a lot of briefings we stream via Youtube and some of the side bar adverts are incredibly work inappropriate.

Linus from LTT did a bit on ads vs prem. Prem viewers generate more revenue if they stay and watch a longer form video. This is somewhat the logic behind Red Letter Media's format and some other long format stuff like Wendover. It's more of a classic content generates revenue model where as ads are much more focused on the subject matter and popularity of the video.

I subscribe reluctantly, and somewhat resentfully, to Youtube Premium to get rid of the ads on the app itself. When watching YT in a browser I'll happily use Adblock. I've seen several Youtubers say that they earn fractions of a cent on ads and their followers are better off subscribing to their Patreon. I imagine YT takes the lions share of ad profits.

I think they should offer some work yt ad removal subscription option with workspace. Ads on my work machine have been good but they are annoying and disruptive at times.

I haven't seen side bar adverts. Doesn't that close?

I must have been living in an alternative universe as I have just now been told off for having an ad blocker (Ublock Origin) when watching YT. I have been watching ad-free for years with no admonishments.

I turned off Ublock and found the ads intolerable and even suggestive (talk to the pretty lady and even see her pics for a price!).

Do all you YT watchers pay for the premium option?

uBlock working as expected here, no nags.

That's strange. I hope it keeps that way for you.

I am learning to tolerate the pause for an ad but it was better before!

Cheers.

Why is it strange?
Unlock works fine once you purge the cache in settings.

Thanks all for giving me a prod. I had earlier purged the cache but it didn't work. But I hadn't killed the browser so wondered if that was why it didn't work

This time I closed all down and reloaded Edge and it seems to have worked. Yea. Fingers crossed.

@marpada

If you like NewPipe, you'll love Smart Tube.  I used New Pipe with ChromeCast until I discovered Smart Tube.

I was paying for YT Premium Lite, however they've got greedy and decided to kill off that plan.  I dont want Youtube music or offline videos or any of that crap, i was happy to pay what i was paying for no ads so they've lost (many) a paying customer i guess (not that they'd care, otherwise that wouldn't have done it)

Ad blocking detection seems to be less effective on Firefox.

I wonder if/when Google Chrome added a function so that websites can ask the browser what extensions are running.
