I've noticed more and more people are passing late on overtaking lanes, then abusing the what, 100-200 meters of wide road at the end of the passing lane to push themselves back into the traffic.

True may be not there, but I'd be taking the number plate for a phone call later. There's no need for that sort of driving.

Perhaps because it's not safe for your wallet to overtake in the middle of actual passing lanes because that's where they put the speed cameras to prevent safe passing.

Perhaps because it's not safe for your wallet to overtake in the middle of actual passing lanes because that's where they put the speed cameras to prevent safe passing.

 

 

I have never seen a camera on an overtaking lane personally, I do 800-1000km a week and a lot on roads with overtaking lanes.

 

Your answer is just validating poor driving behaviour, there is no, and will never be any excuse to do this.

There are times I'm glad I drive an electric car and tend to go a bit slower. 

This video is from my dashcam on SH35 on 2017 12 05 just after dark. The road is upand down with lots of corners and some light fog rising from warm ground as the evening cools down. 

I was doing about 75kph and there was some mist......and then I saw round shapes in the dark........

It was a cultivator being towed behind a tractor....and the size and shape of the cultivator completely blocked all light from the tractor. My headlights were the only light. 

If I'd been driving faster I would certainly have collected this right in my front window.

I really think that is overkill. I know several state highways where providing adequate mobile coverage would be prohibitively expensive.

Would have seen him fine with high beams.

 

and using them on windy roads also helps with your situational awareness. and the plus is other drivers can see you coming from further away

Why do you take this situation where the tractor /harvestor is clearly in the wrong by not having visible lighting, and turn it around to blame linuxlover who really was doing nothing wrong here. 

 

In fact, why was that tractor even driving at night at all? Even during the day they can be a hazard.

I agree, I have a modern car and the low beam are pitiful. Sometimes I think I've not got them on properly. I can only hope there was reasonable mist. I have high beam on most of the time that I need the lights, I'm not sure why a road being windy would matter? Saving power?
