The Tesla Model X is getting closer to production - Two new Tesla Model X spy videos show odd sensors, off-road evidence

Should be a great car but one reservation is the falcon rear doors.  Time to start saving harder (and pity about the exchange rate).

Stats of registrations as at end of July are out.

http://www.transport.govt.nz/research/newzealandvehiclefleetstatistics/

Now Up to 743 Light electric Vehicles in NZ (Up from 695)

  • 7 Tesla Model S (+1)
  • 2 Tesla Model X ???? (unreleased model)
  • 2 Tesla Roadster (No Change)
  • 276 Outlander Plug In Hybrid (+11)
  • 251 Nissan Leaf (80 new, 171 Used Imports) (+24)
  • 26 Holden/Chevy Volts (plug in hybrid) (no change)
  • 26 Audi A3 Plug in Hybrid (+3)
  • 34 Mitsubishi i-Miev (No Change)
  • 44 BMW "i" - not broken down between i3 and i8 (NZ new models of both are plug in hybrid) (+2)
  • 6 Porsche Cayenne Plug in hybrid (+1)
  • 9 Suzhou Eagle's (Chinese porsche cayman copy with electric drive train)
  • Plus a few others.
On the news front it appears that only the USA will get the second generation GM (Holden) Volt, Not Europe, NZ etc.

Also sounds like Next years Nissan leaf (2016) (last year before the Second Generation is released) will offer a larger battery (rumours put it at 30kwh (up from 24kwh)). Rumours also indicate that the Second generation (2017+) Nissan leaf will be way better than the current one. It is expected to have more mass market styling than the current leaf, and a much longer range. Generally it is rumoured to be a much more mass market offering than the current leaf that was targeted at early adopters.

Thats a pretty niche market, for sure.

I am curious: Are there any Think cars registered in New Zealand?

I would consider EV myself when I get Tesla Wall Battery + Solar installed at my place.

Folks, please help me make it happen.

Please vote online for me before 30Aug2015 to help me win free Tesla’s Powerwall Home Battery with Solar Panel and Invertor – the Campaign run in Auckland, New Zealand by Vector Energy. Please vote here:

Vote with Facebook or email (Vote counts only after you clicked the link in email received from Vector Energy)

Using my Analytical skills, my HV Battery Analysers and my meticulous approach to numbers, stats and attention to details I would be in a best position in NZ to share the experience with everyone.

Yip, 0.15% - 0.20% percent of registrations, electric, vs USA at 0.64%, and Noway at about 23%

Actually not too bad considering that other governments give massive incentives, compared to NZ.

Electric Vehicles are still very much at the early adopter stage in NZ. As with any early adopter technology you have to be prepared to take quite a slide on depreciation.

I think the game will change in 2017 when the Nissan leaf gen 2, Chevy Bolt (200 mile range), and Tesla model III are released into the market

No Think Cities on the Ministry of transport report sorry.

One of the mates who voted for me in that Vector Tesla Powerwall Battery Campaign (now closed) mentioned that he knows people who have actually invented and built Electric Submarine (Li-Fe driven) in New Zealand! That is awesome. Look how cool is that here:

That is probably what I may call "dream car" in that thread:

"A Christchurch man has helped break the New Zealand record for the largest gathering of electric vehicles.

The city's electric vehicle community gathered 37 licensed electric vehicles at Cathedral Square on Saturday to break the previous record of 31 vehicles."
