I agree daytime running lights help but if you find it hard a lot of the time to see traffic that dont have/use them then I'd suggest you have an eyesight problem.

I wasn't questioning the number but making an observation on the ratio of hours auto stopped to total driving distance. How far do you go in your 30 minute commute? Perhaps my thoughts are coloured with my commute being about 1 hr 15  min for a distance of 108 km and 4 stops max, which is usually only two stops due to the time of day.

 



 

Yep, but the reality is we clearly have very different driving situation and requirements, hence the results are so different. 

 

I live in a small city (PN) where city blocks are short, roundabouts are common, and the council traffic engineers clearly work for the fuel companies as light synchronisation is more a matter of accident than design. (As an example, I frequently travel the length of one street of less than 1km on which there are five sets of lights, and will commonly have to stop at all five.) 

In my 10 minute commute to work there are at least 12 intersections at which I may be forced to stop. Compare that with your four in 75 minutes and surely you’ll now understand?!

As someone who does very little urban driving I am pretty indifferent towards I-Stop. For me the benefits are very limited, but so is the nuisance factor. I'd probably rather have it than not, but it wouldn't be a major selling point when I am car shopping.

 

I am much more enthusiastic about the cylinder deactivation feature because I often find myself cruising along at around 70 km/h when I am stuck behind slow traffic and that's an ideal scenario to save fuel by killing two cylinders.

Same here. I've had 6.4l/100k out of my 3.6 V6 and regularly get mid to high 6's and I'm sure it's due to the cylinder deactivation.
