As per my previous post: General discussions about EV vs ICE should be put in the appropriate threads, which is NOT this one.

Have removed off-topic posts from both sides of the EV vs ICE discussion, and will continue to do if they are added to this thread.

Please keep on topic here.

Tesla has broken their previous records in the quarter just been (Q4 2019) with 112k cars delivered and beating the quarter target of 100k

It will be interesting to see if this translates into another quarter of profit, but they have had a bit of expense this quarter too with bringing Gigafactory 3 online. As mentioned in the press release above, GF3 will have a run rate of 3000 cars a week.

GF3 was self funded through Chinese loans ($1.4bn of so far), very little it any capital was used for it

I was overcome by curiosity and the sense that I wanted my Model 3 to be fully featured....so I bought Full Self Driving as few weeks ago. I also wanted to ensure I was entitled to any hardware upgrades that might come along.

I'm finding "Summon" useful. I can open the front gate and move the car through it (whichever way - in or out) with my phone, then close the gate.

Smart Summon is restricted from use on public roads. The car seems to think everything not my own property is public road. In the local school car park it says vision is restricted due to degraded video and won't operate. The cameras are clean and clear, the weather fine, the daylight clean and clear. I think it's just fobbing me off.

I tried Navigate on AutoPilot. It does do lane changes nicely. But it missed the SH2 ramp from SH1 at the bottom on the Bombay Hill to the south.

I'm very much looking forward to each software update now. :-)

Full Self Driving would be great. The existing AutoPilot is a good taste of what's to come......but there is a long way to go. Planning (speed and angle) *any* corner would be good.

Yeah interesting how he came around somewhat to the model 3 proposition.

I'm biased but I think its the most significant car of recent times.

Definitely on the short list. It's lower price helps with popularity. Arguably, the Tesla Model S was / is all of that, and more (in some ways) from 2013 onward. You could buy a new 75kWh Model S in NZ when they first started selling here for about $108k. That's pretty much the same price for a 75kWh Model 3 today......

Watched this video and was amazed at the chassis rust on the 2.5 Roadster, starts at 14:10, closer views at 16:20 - 17:30. Reason given was that the vehicle comes from Vermont and is driven all year round (snow, salted roads etc.) A shed load of money being spent on the vehicle and no talk about sorting the rust out. It's in an area that no-one will see unless the vehicle is being pulled apart, so it makes me wonder what the long term issues will be.

In parts of North America where they salt roads in winter you're doing well if your car lasts 10 years.

Kiwis have no experience of this unless they have lived in a place like that.

7 Things I Wish I Knew Before I Got a Tesla Model 3 (From Los Angeles)

Shelby Church

These are the things I wish I knew about the Tesla model 3 before I got it. Overall I love the car and totally recommend it- but people were requesting what things I "dislike" about the Model 3, so here are the few things!
