Now I'm wracking my brain about what rhymes with clunky. Can you please provide the answer before my bed time?
usually a Ford Ranger but that neither rhymes nor is it a SUV. Audi?
Or Suzuki. Both a bit of a rhyme stretch from clunky though.

IANAL but if it's indisputably within the warranty I'd be demanding a new motor.
How old is the vehicle and how many kms?
Are you dealing with the manufacturer or a dealer?
That is my thinking too, but wanted to fact check.
So it is 2019 new and around 75,000 km's. Dealer. Cheers
It's not a new car, which means it could be reasonable that a secondhand engine is used. It's quite reasonable to replace a failed 5 year old engine with a second hand unit that is in good condition. The owner would not be in a worse position than if the engine had not failed, which would likely be the default position in lieau of any language in the warranty.
Given the assumption that the CGA does not apply what does the warranty state about how the manufacturer will remedy defects?
I can't see where clunky rhymes with Mitsubishi, They are normally referred as 'bits are missing' or 'Mitsush**ty'

I can't believe no one guessed the make!
To allow @MikeAqua and @johno1234 to sleep better. The make is a mitsubishi, or as a few of us joke here mitsaclunky due to the fact this person has had three of them majorly break down (3rd now).
I can't believe that ANYBODY would buy the same make of vehicle after having three in a row breakdown !!!
diesel or petrol?
overheating doesn't normally require engine replacement. something else is going on if they say it does. if its cracked the head, replace the head. but you also need to check everything thing else. no point replacing the head or motor to find its a radiator issue thats causing the problem.

Diesel. Vehicle is a pajero sport which is actually quite a nice vehicle and was very good off-road.

afaik those engines are also in the triton. afaik no major problems with them.
if its blowing water then certainly cracked head. i would be surprised if they can get a 2nd hand engine for the price of replacing the head. however highly likely it has a cooling system failure somewhere which lead to the head failure.

That's because it's the Pajero bit that rhymes with Clunky.
Oh, hang on....

if it’s second hand the warranty is only 5 years from the date of first registration, the 10 year warranty is only for the first owner . Might not be in warranty
Google "Pajero meaning" and you will see why they blow the head 😅

Had that slightly wrong. Not manufactures but still within local dealer 12 month warranty.
