networkn: Not sure where you saw NMS (Does a Left Calf right itself in 7 days?) and BS are just fine, today I saw something from SH saying they were "monitoring" them.

Man I want this so bad for RM! I want RM to score the winning try and DC to slot through the middle, the conversion.

My only real concern re Australia are 7 and 8. Genia is good, certainly not Smiths Equal any more I don't think.

RM kicked something not sure penalty or conversion in his last super match didn't he?

I think he kicked the ball for the first time ever in general play, I don't recall him kicking a penalty.

the $100,000 match. a big incentive. I hope to see a technically good match, not a scrap.

networkn: Excellent article on Pooper!

http://www.nzherald.co.nz/sport/news/article.cfm?c_id=4&objectid=11535639

the thing is, in most places, the AB-AU are equal. in some places, the ABs are superior (line out, attacking/running at speed, kissing Nigel Owens). if the ABs control the match, it will be like Eden Park, nowhere for Australia to hide.
if the Aussies control the match, then it will be 49-51 in favour of the ABs.
I'm excited to see which one it is.

If Read and Kaino have a good game, I think we should be OK.

One thing that frightens the hell out of me, is intercept tries. We have given a few away over the past few years. In particular, DC.

My gut feeling we won't lose too much by passing a little deeper.

Maybe that was why there was so much emphasis on the kicking game last week?  Heres hoping the actual kicking is more effective this time around

I was getting very irritated at the AB's for their kick behinds, I couldn't BELIEVE they kept at it after half time.

I think BB has really helped when he has come on. (Though I believe it's as much about BS on the wing (Yes yes I keep saying it over and over because it's TRUE).

It's got very little to do with Ben Smith on the wing.

1. When the ABs attack the line, anyone could be the last guy out on the right. Left is usually Savea, but right, you can have any number of players from the fullback, to the right winger to the hooker, with someone covering the fullback defensive position.
2. When the ABs defend, BS is usually the last man, I am not sure if BB goes to last man when he comes on, but regardless, they have a system to cover missed tackles and it seems to be whoever is nearest at that time - there must be a formula that a keen analyst should figure out within minutes of watching clips. Although finding clips of ABs defending under pressure after BB comes on would be hard to come by.

It's got a lot to do with BB attacking the line and you never know if he's going to run, pass, or drop a grubber, but you know the grubber's coming, usually when the fullback is out of position. DC was never instructed to grubber, his intentions (instructions) were to kick the ball out to force a defensive line out from the SAs.

Edit: when BS was played on the wing with Dagg in FB, Cruden (or in SA, Lima Sopoaga) was playing 10. Cruden/Sopoaga plays like Barrett.

Now I have a wee analysis I've made yesterday.

1. ABs won the toss and are the home team. Does that mean the Aussies get to choose whether they kick off? Because against Argie, Foley kicked deep and the Aussies ran to meet the receivers and nailed them in the 22, creating 2 intercepts 1 of which gave them a try. And they repeatedly kicked deep.

2. When the ABs get the ball are they going to run or are they going to kick. From what I've seen in other matches when the ABs run they are the most dangerous, at the small risk of turning over the ball and being caught out of position in a counter attack. If they fear the Aussie flankers (like they did the Boks', and rightly so - just look at the turnover count) they will kick, if not, they will run. I am guessing both teams are going to kick deep.

Will be interesting to see if SH will do a France or a SA. What was also interesting was the team played exactly to instructions, kicking even though one would think they would be tempted to run, against SA.

quote this post

This thread seems to get too serious so. for light relief:-
Ritchie McCaw, David Pocock and Schalk Burger are standing before God at the throne of Heaven. God looks at them and says, "Before granting you a place at my side, I must first ask you what you believe in." Addressing Pocock first he asks, "What do you believe?" Pocock looks God in the eye and states passionately, "I believe Rugby to be the food of life. Nothing else brings such unbridled joy to so many people. I have devoted my life to bring such joy to everyone."  God offers Pocock the seat to his right.

He then turns to Schalk Burger, "And you, Schalk, what do you believe?" Schalk stands tall and proud. "I believe courage, honour and passion are the fundamentals to life and I've spent my whole playing career providing a living embodiment of these traits."  God, moved by the passion of the speech offers Schalk the seat to his left.

Finally, he turns to Richie McCaw. "And you, Ritchie, what do you believe?" "I believe..." says Ritchie "... that you're sitting in my seat."

Hahaha ... What a legend. I'm awaiting a cracker of a match. I hope. Also hope Nigel Owens is fair to the Wallabies. He likes to pick on the team defending hard, whichever side it is. Then he pings then into submission. Take it easy Nige, i want to see a good game!

I saw an excellent article by Gifford, who suggested the best way to ensure Australia don't get ascendancy at the breakdown, is for them to assign Kaino, to basically make it his sole job to clean out Pocock at the rucks.

I am still plucking up the courage to watch the game live. My heart rate went through the roof watching the semi so I don't know how I'll cope. Ironically the last time I got that agitated over a rugby game was the 2011 final.
